Is it ever worthwhile to set up a sidechaingate to push noises from the background out of the mix? or do I have the wrong idea about a gate being at all useful for voice-lines?

Like I loved it but if I had to criticize anything, the sheer length of time it took me to get to the true ending would have put me off if I knew what I was getting into. I'm used to Metroidvanias being considered "long" at 10 hours and I took 60 to get the true ending. That length made me start mentally categorizing it with its Soulsbourne inspirations moreso than the Metroidvanias I initially associated with it. I'm curious how much time Ina will end up putting into it

It's a great game, but much improved by knowing when to fold 'em and quit to menu so you can wake up at the last bench instead of trying to get greedy and end up with your life low so that when you push on you get nailed by random enemies.

Hollow Knight is by far the most difficult and frustrating metroidvania I've tried, because you have so little health and the bonfires are so far apart. It was so bad I had to give up on it. It was a shame because I loved everything else about the game and if I could have saved every room or two it would have been perfect.

I absolutely love metroidvanias and normally devour them and I bounced off Hollow Knight super hard because it features so much bland walking through rooms that are four times bigger than they need to be, and the distance between checkpoints means that dying means several minutes of bland walking through rooms that are four times bigger than they need to be to get back to your body, which you need to do because the game has Dark Souls death mechanics bolted onto it for no real reason. I'm really glad Ina's enjoying it so much, though, since it's always great when a vtuber really clicks with a game and plays it because they love it rather than because they feel compelled to finish it.

I'll offer the dissenting opinion on this and say I loved Hollow Knight. But I also came to it as a fan of Souls games first and foremost and so things like the length, checkpoints and death mechanic all just were part of the soup to me. I confess it took me kind of a while to even consider that it WAS a metroidvania which, obviously, it is. I found the difficulty fairly gentle compared to some of the games I was seeking out to scratch the Souls itch at the time. In my experience people either bounce off Hollow Knight hard or it becomes one of their favourite games ever with very little middle ground. I am firmly in the former camp but think everyone should at least try it if they can.

Same. I am a lover of metroidvanias and even I couldn't really get into Hollow Knight. I admit that when watching people like Ina play, the game definitely deserves all the praise it gets, but it just really isn't for me. I like my metroidvanias more trashy like Bloodstained.

It took me a year of on and off playtime to put 13 hours of play time into Hollow Knight, so I can see why lots of people like it. I just found it frustrating and tedious. And then I went and played 40 hours of Bloodstained in a week, spending a good percentage of that grinding rare drops by walking in and out of the same room ad infinitum.

I do get why someone would think the game's rooms are way bigger than they need to be, because in a game that has wall jumping, dashing, charged dashing, double jumping, and charms that just make you move faster, your opening movement kit really is just walking around (plus pogoing with your sword, but that isn't faster than walking). It'd be my main critique of the game, I think dash probably should have been in the game to start and air dash given as an upgrade instead of both needing to be found. Ina's hitting the point where you get dash and wall jumping is when the game really opens up and the level design becomes more complicated and interesting.

Looks like a pretty good quality 1/7 scale figure. So anywhere between 16,000¥ to 20,000¥ usually. There's higher quality stuff that goes all the way to like 30,000¥ but that's for limited ed runs of the really popular animes.
