Living the Dream

Well that's good! I dunno from what I saw it looked like the manga was popular enough it's going to be one of those long running ones but yeah if its seasonal then I just look forward to enjoying it all and then forgetting about it until they're somehow on season 4
The manga was doing good numbers before the anime and now has gotten a Kimetsu-style spike in volume sales, so it's going nowhere unless the mangaka wants it to.

And considering how the manga just finished a big arc and started another, I'd say that the manga's got some fuel in it still. I can see it going on for a few more years, so the anime adaptation won't run out of material, even less so with a seasonal approach.

Also unlike Demon Slayer Jujutsu Kaisen was not in the middle of it's final arc. (A major arc to be sure but not one that was sure to be final)

Crunchyroll heavily mistranslated Black Flash.

Black Flash is a distortion in space that occurs when cursed energy is applied with 0.00001 seconds of a physical hit. (Not a trillionth) When a sorcerer is able to achieve this, their cursed energy flashes black, and the force of their strike is increased by the power of 2.5. (Not times 2.5, the power of 2.5)

unless the story suddenly gets like 10x as anal about power levels i don't understand how that distinction could ever make any actual narrative difference

like (hopefully?) i don't need to dredge up my memories of high school algebra to calculate that Gojo is Real Strong

Nah the creator just likes math. And a hit to the power of 2.5 is more impressive then a hit times 2.5.

It never gets to that point unless the difference is absolutely overwhelming, like facing off against Gojo/Sukuna.
What I like about Jujutsu it keeps every single fight as a back and forth push and pull. And MAPPA's been doing a real good job at adapting that.

I always liked the way it gave a reason for everyone to shout their ability names or go on a big monologue about how their power worked because it made the effects stronger, like it's still just kind of a genre convention but it having some in-world purpose was entertaining

My girlfriend hated Toudou at first introduction. She was full of groans.

She was full on giggle fitting throughout the fight between him and Itadori.

She now has yelled 'BESTU FRIENDO!' At me twice tonight, and has said they are, together, her favorite parts of the show.

Seconding this. I did not like Toudou at all when he first showed up, then he had a dream sequence in another genre and now I love him.

I wouldn't call him best boy just yet, but it really made me appreciate Itadori even more that he is faced with this violent muscle jock trying to kick his rear end who is saying "We should be best friends" and his response is "Totes bro."

Average human punch is roughly 70 psi... 2.5 x 70 is 175 psi. 2.5 power is 40,996 psi. Itadori is at his baseline above peak human fitness, so that 2.5 power should be pretty scary.

So fun fact about the Hanami fight namely the Black Flash barrage. According to the author in a note that would have killed Jougo. So it just shows how tough Hanami is. Though the same note states that Jougo would not have gotten hit by said barrage, as he is much faster then Hanami, and does not need to tank blows.

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most slyly self-aware shonen I've ever read. It's like every little formulaic frustration I have with the genre was something the author noticed, and felt the same way about. The protagonists are happy to gang up or ambush opponents; the rear end in a top hat faction of social conservatives are actually villains as such; having a demonic other half that you can call on for power is actually a really bad idea, etc.

I also have a theory about what Yuuji's cursed technique actually is that relates to the above, but unfortunately I couldn't resist reading ahead so I'm going to sit on it until we get to the part that made me go from suspicious to nearly certain.
