I've resigned myself to the show being disappointing, to one degree or another. I hope it's good, but I just don't know how a live action prestige drama can fit all of the best stuff about the series into it. That said, I'm really hoping it leads to a revival of public interest in WoT media so that we could get some cool graphic novels or animated series or something out of it.

Please, we all know that there's only one RPG team with experience in developing a world of extensive and diverse geography, multiple cities and towns of varying sizes, distinct cultures blending various Eastern and Western tropes, countless secret societies hosting members of dubious intent, complex political intrigue, a cast of thousands of realized characters, super teens who overcome all odds through the power of friendship and being in the right place at the right time, their personal fetishes, and thousands of years of backstory. given how much attention is paid to the bows it'll be wild if they're not sizable in the show. that all said it'll be interesting to see how they handle the archery.

Bows are good but I wanna see staff porn. In addition to the Mat vs princes fight, I wanna see Mat and Juilin busting into the Stone of Tear, and Loial wrecking trollocs with a tree trunk. If we get far enough for Ashanderai action too, cool.

Personally, I'm hoping for really good Aiel spear-fighting. Spears are usually a "trash mob" weapon on screen, so having them be the mark of an "elite" force will be a refreshing change of pace.

I'm not sure we've ever seen short spears on screen (I guess unless you were super deep into Zulu war documentaries). Even 300 where the Spartans use shield and spear (except in phalanx form) have long spears. VAGENDA OF MANOCIDE fucked around with this message at 17:42 on Mar 2, 2021 |

I really hope they keep the prologue. I've noticed WOT seems to get a lot of undeserved flak for being too soft , not grim dark enough, too much clichéd, classic fantasy, etc. Opening with the prologue would go a long way towards dispelling those notions, and also help differentiate WoT from the other big fantasy IPs. Right from the get go it would show wot is going to go to some very dark and violent places, and won't be pulling any punches on that front, but also that they won't be shying away from magic and hopefully show off the Bezos Bucks special effects budget. I've also been wondering what the trailer is going to look like. Will they have Rosamund Pike giving a brief synopsis of the prophecy of the dragon and history of the world while showing random scenes on screen?

# ? Mar 3, 2021 22:28 |
Maybe the trailer will be the prologue. It would be pretty effective

I hope they're brave enough to use New Spring as the pilot movie. After all, no-one will complain about WoT not being dark enough anymore after seeing a child being murdered on screen.

I think the only way you can do New Spring (unless you do it as a separate tv movie between seasons or something?) is through periodic flashbacks. You wouldn't just show it first because it spoils the plot of the first book.
|
# ? Mar 4, 2021 03:37 |
It was a long time ago I read New Spring, but I really wasn't impressed with it. I should give it another try I guess.

I think starting with New Spring is probably a bad idea. Why would you want to wreck the mystique of the Aes Sedai so early? The first few books practically ride on it.
|
# ? Mar 4, 2021 04:01 |
|
Yeah, New Sping after at least 3 of the main books. Doesn't make the Aes Sedai any better... ... or worse.

Personally, I think it would be pretty cool to move the prologue to being the last flashback in the pillars. That way there could be some tension in the sequence. You see Muradin lose his poo poo, but you know it won't bother Rand. Instead the first few flashbacks could be framed with a focus on Muradin's struggle, barely paying attention to Rand going through this part. Follow that up with Rand seeing what he really has in store from the madness. Smash cut to a close up his eyes filled with tears or him screaming, then immediately hard cut to black to end the episode. It could be pretty cool is all I'm saying. Doubly so if that was the first time you see LTT, and they use it to introduce the voice.
|
# ? Mar 5, 2021 19:56 |
Nah. Have the voice before, but unexplained. Rand's got some strange voice whispering to him, sometimes giving him advice, but neither he or the audience know what that voice is. Then hit the Prologue and you realize it is LTT.

Perrin with Wolf stuff Mat can get some aural part to the Dagger Curse Rand gets LTT Start it with assumptions it is like the dreams and than reveal each source over time.

Nah at first Ishamael is going into all their dreams. I don't think Lanfear is even out in book 1 yet. Not posting this as a gotcha, I just love remembering and talking wot stuff: "Ishamael begins to haunt the dreams of Rand, Perrin, and Mat, knowing that one of them is the Dragon Reborn. In these dreams, he rants about the fight they've had time and time again. He claims that the Aes Sedai are setting him - whichever boy he appears to - up to be a false Dragon. His aim in these confrontations is to turn the Dragon Reborn to the side of the Dark One. In these dreams, he calls himself Ba'alzamon exclusively, acting as the Dark One. It is here that his eyes and mouth begin shifting into caverns of flame." E: jesus I can't believe I didn't recognize the joke Barreft fucked around with this message at 06:15 on Mar 6, 2021 |
