The grid thing, although in retrospect it is shocking our first house didn't have any track lighting in it.

This is probably the most mundane question ever, but does anyone have thoughts on hand soap dispensers? Should it match the hardware (chrome, nickle, etc) of the faucet head? I'm not sold on touch-free due to price, replacing batteries, and being more likely to fail. Foaming dispensers seem cool, but I feel like part of the point of washing your hands is that creating lather ensures you're scrubbing off germs.

I like to match them to the soft furnishings/accents, so something that complements the towels/shower curtain.
E: and yeah, avoid the automatic ones, they are a pain to deal with long-term.

I really like the in-counter dispensers. Obviously installing one after the fact is difficult/expensive, but you can also (assuming kitchen) replace your faucet with one that has the sprayer integrated into it, and then convert the sprayer hole into a soap dispenser. Otherwise I would just get a regular pump style dispenser that looks nice enough.

I don't have a dishwasher, so the touchfree pumps are a huge plus to me, almost a necessity. $25 gets you one with a 2-year warranty. In my experience batteries last about 5-6 months. To me that's more than worth it.

I still can't tell what the hell it's even supposed to be. Running popular theories are swingers/porn studio, wealthy hoarder, assisted living, or Mormons. I don't fully believe any of them.

It's a 20 car garage, by the way.

If you would further indulge me, my washing dishes method is like, put dishes and dish soap into wash tub or sink, run hot water into sink, wash dishes. Soap is only needed once.

I also felt these people have been talking about hand soap not dish soap.

Do you use soap multiple times during regular dishwashing? Do you use the same soap to wash dishes and to just wash your hands?

I'm genuinely very curious now

I dispense soap onto a sponge, scrub a dish, rinse the dish, repeat. New dab of soap on sponge as needed.

Due to a mild infection of bougie I actually have two dispensers, one for dish soap and one for fancy hand soap. That said, if I've just been handling raw meat or something greasy, I use the dish soap on my hands because it seems more effective.

Unless you're in a severe scarcity/drought situation, I have to say "one big bucket of filthy water with one squirt of soap" is much less optimal.

Dishwasher is the most water efficient way to clean dishes. Period, as long as you put the soap in for the prewash and just compost/throw away the solids.
