Yeah the guitar is the prime example of what I'm talking about when I say that the teasers were poorly conceived* on a basic level. If the purpose of the teaser is to entice book readers by showing how objects from the books can be envisioned on the screen, then it doesn't work because Thom doesn't play a guitar in the books. If the purpose of the teaser is to entice non-book readers to explore your wondrous new fantasy world, then... you've shown them a still picture of a regular guitar. Like, the teasers aren't even bad so far, they're just nonfunctional as teasers. *I'm not super bothered by the guitar change, and I actually think replacing Thom's flute with a guitar would have been a really great idea, because A) it's really hard to show someone dramatically playing a flute on screen and B) it retains the high/low class disparity of Thom switching between gleeman and court bard personas present in the books. They should have filmed the prologue to release as a teaser/trailer, especially if they are starting the show with Moraine instead. It would drum up excitement and show off the feel of the show plus how they are going to handle magic. They wouldn't have to spoil anything from the show itself before it is ready, and when Rand starts head-sixing or golluming LTT later it will be a shocking callback to see how much the guy lost it at the end.

The production value looks low in the 2 second teasers and stills, despite the enormous budget. I feel like they would want to show off with their teasers... and if this is the best they've got.. yikes. Or we're just overreacting to 6 seconds of footage and a few stills that haven't gone through post production. edit: I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but why have moiraine and lan say the lines they said in the teasers? There's dozens of multi-hour Malazan videos on the internet, and I've met exactly one person in real life who's ever admitted to reading that series. Wheel of time was a really popular piece of genre fiction in this time, just as Shannara. Or Sword of Truth. Of course there's youtube videos. Both of those shows sucked, though Sword of Truth had some inspired silliness in later seasons.

I mean, the main character, repeatedly described as well over 6 foot tall in the books, was the shortest person on the show unless a kid was in the episode. They went full Xena/Legends of Tomorrow and it was great.

It's a drat shame it ended when it did. They'd closed the rift, but Darken Rahl had escaped death and was no longer bound to the Keeper, and was gathering others to him. It would have made a really interesting third season.

LTT is specifically called out as being dark haired and different looking a couple of times when Rand's having identity crises throughout the series. It's not really clear what determines the Heroes' "default" appearance and names in t'a'r, but they also have different names and looks with each iteration.

Heroes likely experience the same thing--though they have thousands and thousands of years of experience in different physical forms.
