Listening to this now, and these guys are still consistently solid. Good pick if you want some lighter thrash mixed with a lot of of trad/uspm.

Yeah that's why Bathory (or Quorthon) went to a more Odinism or whatever type of sound because he was sick of all the Christians blaming him about Satan.
I read that in an interview, anyway.

Norse/Pagan mythos in metal basically serves the same purpose as Satanic imagery: making GBS threads on King Olaf I's historic eradication of traditional culture and forced conversion to Christianity. This isn't news to probably anyone in this thread, but early Norwegian black metal tied into political punk counterculture movements because Norway didn't have separation of church and state until 2017. So after heavy metal aesthetics and anti-government hardcore punk emerged in western Europe, instead of dressing up like gutter trash with mohawks that was scary/offensive to posh rich people and conservative governments, northern Europe's punks leaned hard into imagery that would be scary/offensive to Christians (and added some KISS/Alice Cooper makeup because those bands had long since had parents clutching their pearls).

It was also a reaction to all the overproduced technical precision of death metal at the time, but that's a different point entirely.

Most Satanists don’t actually believe in Satan though. Neither the Church of Satan nor the Temple of Satan preach belief in the actual Satan character. It’s more about individualism. They just use satanic imagery to rile people up.

Kinda like metal bands.

That's true. Those Bob Larson interviews with Satanic bands are hilarious.

I already liked their two previous albums, but after a couple more spins I feel like this latest one is even better still. Can't really put my finger on it, it just feels more memorable somehow. I guess it's more melodic? I mean they were already straddling the fence between thrash and heavy metal before, but some of the stuff on this new album is basically straight-up USPM.
