In an effort to know more about my neighborhood, I signed up to a bunch of Facebook groups, mailing lists and so on. And now I wish I hadn't: * The people who post every day asking "what was that siren / helicopter / large group of people at the pub last night" * Those self promoters posting their home kitchen or fitness training service, likewise every day "I'm looking for 8 men who are wanting to become ripped Greek gods, attract an unceasing queue of women and improve their confidence" * The periodic urban panic alerts, where someone posts a vague, ill-defined sighting to warn everybody - "I saw a strange guy hanging around the supermarket, he looked shifty, so everyone watch out!" And the even less explicable people who post to thank them for this valuable information * And a peculiar local one. The council has put in traffic calming measures to reduce speed and years on side streets: side bumps, one ways, even closing off one end of some streets. And apparently, this is an evil plot to cause deaths, destroy local business, aid gang activity, promote socialism, etc.

Apparently someone in a nearby neighborhood found photo evidence that their boyfriend had been cheating so got the photos printed and laminated and then posted them all around. Lots of posts complaining about the laminated gay porn on their lawns, stuck to the mudflaps of their trucks, etc. Kinda disappointed we didn't get any on our street.

A good friend and neighbor had their wallet stolen out of a car in their driveway last night and so she shared the video on next-door to see if anyone recognized the thief and every single post was just people scolding her/her husband for leaving one of their car's unlocked. Like, why bother responding? Buncha dicks.

My favorite is when somebody's wife posts about how you should make sure to lock your cars because their husband's gun got stolen out of their car. Not sure if it's a PSA or husband shaming. Given where I live, my guess is they think it's a PSA. Protip: Don't fill your garage so full of junk you can't park in there. Also don't buy a truck too big to fit in your garage.
