My favorite moment in 1.11's dub is actually the worst moment in the original Japanese version purely because Funimation had the leeway to edit the script. They change Ritsuko informing Misato of the plan for Operation Yashima, which Misato herself came up with to her instead basically going "Okay, so you came up with a plan that involves yadda, yadda, yadda, a bunch of crazy poo poo that makes no sense... and you expect that it's actually gonna work? Holy poo poo." I'll eat a shoe if there's anything like that in the new dubs.

If they're both telling or trying to tell the truth (given passage of time and whatnot), it's likely that the netflix script is technically new, but ADV back in the day probably was asked to do some separate script version that used "This is the Third Children" or some poo poo and she assumed it was word for word when it probably wasn't (but was probably still an awkward as gently caress script).

im pretty sure the fansub i got off hotline in the 90s already said third children, so having the official dub say third children as well makes sense to me. after all fansubs are inscrutable

In the Rebuild films Mari has a penchant for singing old pop tunes by Enka singer Kiyoko Suizenji. Had a weird moment of synchronicity and decided on a whim at the start of this week to finally check out the EVA rebuilds, only to finish 3 tonight and find out that the finale is out tomorrow. Pretty hyped for it.

the english dub is a little weird (going through 1.11 and 2.22) but it's not the terrible thing that was the Netflix version. it's sort of in-between the old rebuild dub and the very literal netflix version which leaves it feeling a bit uneven but there's definitely some additional clarity to what's going on. mari really benefitted from some localization rewriting and she's kind of flat now (but she also calls the tenth angel a 'ballbuster' so, like I said, uneven.) there're some line deliveries and pronunciations that're off (SEH-LA, ZEH-LA, ZELEY) and misato's voice actress feels like she's hitting the limit of being able to do Misato's voice. SEELE itself sounds way off. fuyutsuki is about the same as he was in EOE, lovably monotone. I'll go through 3.33 in a bit.
