I think it's just a case study in why real estate photos are usually HDR as all hell. Those appear to be unaltered phone photos, and considering how mine usually come out I think all those rooms would look fine in person.

I think there are immense design and style clashes going on. No room is coherent. This is often the case with regular people's homes, but the older structure here has such a strong personality that the modern fixtures, furniture, and finishes clash pretty noticeably. It's also very unpolished in finishes. It could use some thoughtful trims and transitions.

Same. Upstate NY, VT and CT have so many lovely old houses on acreage that are relatively cheap because they're in bumfuck nowhere, but they are in an ideal location for a future apocalypse.

Side note: I have noticed a trend of houses from the 18th-early 19th century surviving far, far better than houses from the Victorian era or later. Survivorship bias of course, I'm sure there were plenty of lovely houses that didn't last long too, and but compare an unrestored, abandoned colonial house to its Victorian counterpart and the difference is startling. Probably because they were built out of stone, brick, and/or old-growth timber that is less likely to burn, rot, or collapse from a storm. Queen Annes are pretty to look at but super vulnerable to any kind of damage. And as for MCM, Frank Lloyd Wright's houses were falling apart in his lifetime. The postwar ranch houses aren't going to last another century without going full Ship-of-Theseus and just having nothing original left.

My bathroom cabinet remodeling project has just started - they are currently making the doors and drawers. The price shot up 50% because I decided I wanted to do no handles, and utilize the Blum Tip-On system but it will definitely be worth it. Since the vanity cabinet and linen closet have a frame, making the doors bigger, and using larger overlay hinges (to give a frameless appearance) isn't a big issue, but retrofitting these tip-on triggers definitely is. Everything will be soft close too.

Incredibly excited to get rid of my "traditional" (which is a swear word to me) framed stained maple cabinets, and have white slab doors with no handles and no visible frame!

um excuse me

It was originally going to cost me about 1500, but doing the tip-on added 50% to the price lol. But still not bad, a hell of a lot cheaper than replacement, which isn't really viable anyway because the linen closet is built into the wall.

Of course next year I do the same thing in my kitchen. Thankfully it's a small galley style, but I still expect that to be 6-7k. But cabinet replacement would be 15-20k so
