IIRC the UK, Canada and others were telling AZ people to get an mRNA shot... any of them, it didn't matter. From what I understand pfizer and moderna are functionally identical and just a different dose size of the same juice cocktail.

lmfao police are exempt from washington state's government worker vaccine mandate

https://www.king5.com/article/news/...18-33d09a93d891

quote:

So far, the mandate doesn’t specifically extend to first responders and emergency services. But firefighters will need to be vaccinated because they’re considered health care workers due to their EMT and paramedic training.

Law enforcement officers, on the other hand, don’t get that training, so they still fall outside the purview of the mandate.

Police departments across Pierce County say they typically wait for the city to pass down directives for them to follow, so for now, they’re still strongly encouraging officers to be vaccinated, but it isn't mandatory.

So far, there has been no indication that a vaccine mandate will be put forward on the city or county level. In the meantime, the mask directive that was put forward by the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department is being enforced for all public employees in the county.

cops are going to be the biggest source of covid spread and death soon, lol

incredible public health messaging when "avoiding unnecessary exposure while you have a plausible risk of infection" is described as "living in fear" and "our governor told us not to do that [postpone our plans so as not to contribute to the deadly pandemic]"

This guy is equivalent to someone like Ted Cruz as far as prominence goes, and also in charge of lockdown "disaster payment" funding for regular people to stay home. He just said they will reduce as vax rates go up, which will force states to end lockdowns. Currently $750 per week.

Edit: lol just noticed they're backing off the agreed 80% vax rate now too. Now it's 70-80%.

mod sassinator posted:

i swear on lowtax's grave that i have no financial stake in this but: no, this is not what is happening. regeneron does not have reduced efficacy via delta. it is not only useful after infection, it is also useful prophylactically against infection, to prevent an exposed person from getting infected. if you are infected, it is the best treatment available, but (as steve said) only within about the first week post-exposure. it is true that bambam is no longer helpful and the fda said to stop using it.

the regeneron/insurance thing is just like what happened with the vaccines: for better or worse, the administrative implementation of getting them is that 1) if you have insurance, it is billed to them at no cost to you, and ultimately paid for by the federal gov't, 2) if you don't have insurance, it is just billed to the feds. no i don't know why it is organized this way, but this is the way it has been organized since the CARES act, for both things.

i certainly wouldn't put shady dealings past desantis but i don't think that is what is happening. here is what i think is happening: desantis, who is a villain but not a fool, is triangulating for 2024 by trying to run the narrow gap between "open the economy up as much as possible and go anti-mask because it owns the libs to do so" and "don't kill all my voters." in order to pull that off, he has to set up a situation where the entire public health apparatus of florida is tuned toward saving those of his voters who would be hospitalized from that + dying, not to prevent them from getting sick in the first place. the best — really only — tool in his kit there beyond vaccination (which is also polarized) is regeneron.

ironically, what might happen here is that we polarize our treatments such that those left of center are pro-vaccine, anti-regeneron, and those right of center are anti-vax, pro-regen. given that you can give regen as a passive vaccine, albeit for short windows of time, you could imagine that this is less bad than anti-vax, no-masks, no-nothing. but it will be very bad if those who are vaccinated don't want monoclonals because they think they are expensive scams.

i think whoever it was on twitter who said they should full approve the vaccines so that obama can sign up to market pfizer via his spotify podcast with bruce and moderna can hire trump to cut cheesy commercials for them injecting arms on a golden escalator and we just get politically polarized highly effective vaccines star-bellied sneeches style might be the galaxy-brain way out of this

So the myocarditis stuff is what I would put my bet on for why the FDA is really dragging on kidvax. Not this new moderna poo poo, but just in general because it's been a well known side effect in younglings (I've personally scanned several cardiac mri's of early 20s people that got the vaxx myocarditis).

However I dunno if that particularly warrants such a delay considering how incredibly rare the side effect is.

Regardless, not doing zoomer school for one more loving semester is such a disgusting failure it doesn't matter what's going on with the vaxx.

Massachusetts is similar. They've been reporting 30+% breakthrough cases each week for over a month with 4% hospitalization rate and 1% mortality rate.

It's hard to understand how no news outlet has grabbed this story (besides the continued fall of real journalism combined with the need to manufacture consent to continue providing bodies to drive the economy). I would have thought at least 1 outlet would have gone rogue by now.

Yeah, if they were committed to online schooling, or at a bare minimum making sure that every parent in America had it as an option until vaccines are available for thier kids, then I'd have a lot more confidence that anyone cared. Instead they are setting up a situation where the vaccine isn't going to matter to the current generation of kids because every single one of them is going to be infected with COVID before they are allowed access to a vaccine.
