With Noah aiming to run the Nippon Budokan at New Year annually, New Japan traditionally at The Tokyo Dome on the 4th, and with other promotions running shows in between, it has been said that this may become Puro's very own Wrestlemania weekend, known as "Puroresu Golden Week"

Final Gate is usually within the last few days of December too.

I've been planning a Japan trip once travel is unfucked, so I'm currently considering spending the last week of December 2022 and first week of January 2023 in Tokyo and just going to every wrestling show I can. Hopefully the world is still around by then.

Final Gate is usually middle of the month, but the more important show, Doi Darts Korakuen, is usually the last week or so.

I had to check to confirm, but the two most frequent dates for FG have been the 23rd and 28th, with most dates being either on or after Christmas. The lead-in FG tour dates are usually smack in the middle. But who knows what they'll be doing this year and next year, since they seem to have been shifting earlier in the past couple years. I wish they'd release the dates earlier so I could plan around it, though they're almost always in Fukuoka which puts a bit of a snag into my plans unless I want to travel a bit more.

It's already been seen as that for a while? First week of January is extremely stacked. You've the Tag tournament shows with DDT & BJW guys on new years eve, All Japan doing New Years War tour openers on the 2nd & 3rd, last couple of years NOAH have drawn well going head to head with the Tokyo Dome. Freedoms, BJW, DDT, Zero1 all have shows at Korakuen. About the only company that doesn't run then is Dragon Gate

TJPW have run a Korakuen Hall show on the 4th of January every year since 2016. It's over before Wrestle Kingdom starts.

All Japan Pro Wrestling has agreed to bring at least one America-based wrestler to Japan as soon as October to compete in the company’s yearly Real World Tag League tournament pending a visa application, according to a source.

The visa application process is ongoing and if successful, would mark the first time an international wrestler has competed in the company since last February – before the start of the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic and the introduction of international travel restrictions – barring those who opted to stay in Japan (such as Francesco Akira).

Last tour I can see with an American on it was the 2019 RWTL which had The End on it. Last Europeans aside from Akira would've been Lucas Steel & Danny Jones who both went home after the Excite Series tour. Oh, & JR Kratos too.

God, Lucas Steel in Purple Haze. That has been memoryholed.

Looks like Suwama is winning the All Japan Royal Road tournament, judging from the final four. Not too thrilled with the idea personally, but at least the tournament matches are on the short side. Kento and Shuji Ishikawa certainly didn't need to work a 22-minute match last night, though.

Real turnup for the books here, no pointless New Japan Korakuens. What a relief. Instead we've got a real tasty looking Ice Ribbon show, Royal Road comes to an end, another 2AW title match I'm not going to get to see, big Freedoms card & a very good GLEAT G Prowrestling show. Plus NOAH & Dragon Gate cards that seem fun on paper.

They're teasing a big announcement. Judging from the timing I have to imagine it's about the Stardom offer match at the NJPW Metlife Dome show. Maybe this will actually be available to watch. Even if not the High Speed title match and the Iroha/Maika matches should be well worth watching. Also Unagi's gonna beat up a 14 year old so that should be cool.

FREEDOMS had to tweet out to tell their fans to follow COVID rules after yesterday's Korakuen. Weirdly, FREEDOMS has been one of the strictest institutions in Japan at enforcing COVID countermeasures that I've encountered and that's not just among wrestling promotions. I'm not sure what specifically caused them to do it but the crowd during Jun Kasai vs Takayuki Ueki was the loudest I've heard a Korakuen crowd since March last year. It was all laughter, gasps and shrieks that I guess was mostly involuntary reactions as opposed to chanting and stuff but I guess Korakuen Hall or FREEDOMS themselves weren't happy with it.

This just makes me excited to see the show even more than I was already.

Anyway, TAJIRI is doing an MLW show in about a month so that hopefully that coincides with an All Japan tour & we can get to see Omori tag with literally anyone else, Kodama, Doi, Lee, Arashi, just not TAJIRI.

Watching a year+ of clapping-only Japan shows makes me wish there was some kind of noise equivalent to booing.

I propose the introduction of hand-farts to audiences worldwide. Imagine a sold out arena full of simultaneous hand-farting whenever Dick Togo ruins a match.

A little busier this week, but this is the calm before the storm. N1 starts on the 12th, the G1 on the 18th. Sunday has the big show of the weekend. That's right, Big Japan's Death Mania IX. I did the bait & switch gag but I'm not sorry, it's a cool card that doesn't have EVIL on it or a stupid 3 way tag title match (I'd trust Dragon Gate to do a 3 way tag, not so much New Japan). But it's not live & Wrestle Grand Slam is so I guess we can see how much of a miracle worker Shingo Takagi is. There's live shows on DDT Universe again! A faction disbands! All Japan & Dragon Gate have fun shows at Korakuen! Stardom make Momo Watanabe wrestle on both New Japan shows & then twice on their own Monday show! And then to cap the week off, next Friday Michinoku Pro do a living funeral for Great Sasuke & then he wrestles a match right out of the promotions peak years, which I really hope airs somewhere because it sounds the right kind of dumb.

Smile. Win. Yay!

That Saturday show for DDT looks absolutely killer. It's a shame it's up against Big Match Tana, no one in the world better.

I hope it's DisasterBox is the one that disbands, they're the only unit that don't really have a defined theme (which thinking about it is explained by the name). Also, it could give Yoshimura the opportunity to reform Nautilus within 37KAMIINA.

Huge consequences from the Dramatic Survivor tournament in DDT, where the losing faction has to disband.

RIP in peace Damnation. A tear was shed in every branch of Hot Topic.

Crazy, I wonder what their plan is with the 6-man belts, I could either see them stripping Damnation or them defending at as Soma, Endo and Hino from now on

e: just finished the show, finals were incredible, especially Takeshita hitting the deadlift German on Hino and Ueno's WR looking at horrifying as ever
