The Piney Woods region of Texas is very much like north Louisiana. And the parts around Houston where they've allowed the oil refiners to turn it into a hellscape are extremely similar to parts of South Louisiana.

It really isn't that different, the easiest way to make a document in 1959 was a typewriter, the easiest way today is a computer of some sort, in both cases people are simply taking the easiest and most convenient route, the pattern of behavior is the same in both cases. Though hey, we got rid of a lot of the overt racism, so that's nice.
