These motherfuckers. I've thrown myself into the mask debate in my local school district and these anti maskers. "I don't believe in the news" "Your statistics are propaganda and you can't use the numbers from the South here (NH) because the no one is sick!" "No kids have died yet, so why wear masks" "Masks dont help and you cant prove that they do!"

History is filled with the sound of silken slippers going downstairs and wooden shoes coming up? I know that idea has been co-opted by Boomers complaining about participation trophies or whatever, but our society is full of coddled croc-wearing adult children who can't make moderate sacrifices even to save their own lives, let alone the lives of actual children. Do they have wooden shoes in China?

Morbus posted:He's right, god dammit! I'm gonna go live my life! Carpe Diem!!!! To be fair, I'm a generally antisocial person but there's still things I miss. I miss my friends. I miss going to the Alamo Drafthouse for old movies. I miss visiting museums. I miss all the amazing restaurants downtown, many of which either do not deliver or at the least would not deliver to the Bronx given the distance. And I'm not a very social person; I don't do bars or clubs or whatnot, and yet I've still - even without the fear and stress - had my life demonstrably made less enjoyable and fulfilling thanks to COVID. Like it's not worth the tradeof, but let's not make light of it; having to behave responsibly in this pandemic - while absolutely the moral and practical thing to do - sucks and is absolutely making life less enjoyable and rewarding - although far less so than the alternative would. And I can only imagine how much more it sucks for younger folks in their teens. Their parents and their nation are trying to murder or maim them and their options are either to miss out on some of the most exciting and fun experiences of youth, or to become complicit in murder and mayhem - and not the fun kind. poo poo sucks.

washington state is getting its first morgue trucks, down in cowlitz county: https://localnews8.com/news/ap-idaho/2021/09/08/covid-19-deaths-overwhelm-morgue-in-cowlitz-county/ quote:LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A recent increase in COVID-19 deaths has overwhelmed a southwest Washington county’s storage capacity, prompting the coroner to ask the commissioners declare an emergency to allow the county to bring in a refrigeration trailer. Cowlitz County commissioners agreed Tuesday to the request to help expand capacity until the new morgue is ready for staff to move into in about a month. The Daily News reports at least eight county residents died due to COVID-19 between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6. Coroner Tim Davidson said the morgue and the county’s funeral homes are maxed out on capacity. All together, the facilities can typically hold 45 bodies and right now have about 65. gonna be wild when this is king county in a month

Pre-COVID article about Huey Newton's theories about death and suicide that I think are relevant. Black people in the US have been super exploited for centuries, but with the US state ignoring mass death in all sectors of the US working class at this point, I think some of the theorizing there is relevant.quote:Huey Newton, one of the founding leaders of the Oakland Black Panther Party (BPP), brought death and revolutionary activity together in his analysis of suicide. The BPP organized to unite the Black community against the forces that oppressed them in the United States and the world. Huey Newton's theory of suicide was informed by his experience as a historically enslaved and exploited subject of Black America, as well as the US government's response to Black resistance. As the Panthers organized self-defense initiatives and grassroots "survival" programs, the US government worked in collusion with local police departments to destroy the Party. The FBI's COINTEPRO infiltrated every chapter of the BPP, murdering or imprisoning much of its leadership. To this day, Black Panther members like Mumia Abu Jamal remain in prison while the Black population outside the walls experiences murder every 28 hours by some form of law enforcement. This is the context in which Newton produced a theory of suicide that redefined the experience of death for the purposes of revolutionary change.

Lacrosse posted:In my late 20s I kept reading these lovely dating articles about how men don't want women over 30 because you're an old hag now which contributed to the dread about turning the big three-oh. Now that I'm halfway through my 30s, not only do I not care about that anymore but I'm a lot more confident and generally having a much better time of being 30 than I ever did at 20. Even in my 20's I preferred women who were over 30, because they (for the most part) had their poo poo together.

quote:You are not that important. We will all die. Some sooner than others. After 30 your life is all downhill and you are hurtling towards death the only question is when. So why live the rest of your very short and unimportant existence in constant anguish and fear of something you truly have zero control over? Speaking as somebody in her sixties, hell no. My years between 30-50 were wonderful, and absolutely better than my 20s. In my 50s I became disabled, which is an outlier adn should not be counted. Yes, I'm a boomer, and yes, that matters in the equation. However, when I think about what was good about those two decades, it's about major increases in self-confidence, knowing my worth, and my abilities. It's also about having and raising my children, which isn't everybody's goal. In a hosed economy and a hosed world, you will still learn more about who you are and what you can do -- and I don't mean work per se -- in life after 30 than you did at 30.

One of the things that helps keep me from suicide is righteous indignation and stubborn defiance. If fascists want me dead - and they do - then they are going to have to do it themselves. I am not in the business of doing dirty work for fascists, and like loving hell will my last action in life being carrying out a murder on behalf of fascists.
