The Boondocks had some of their best comics during that time. In between going after The FBI, the media, flag waving, and Vivica A Fox fans, they even took the complaints they were getting and replaced the comic with The Adevntures of Flagee and Ribbon.

This continues until one of the most simplistic comics but still true.

I still maintain it was a mistake to put up a different building on the WTC site. It should have been two identical towers so the skyline goes back to how it was.

If we rebuilt the towers and just forgot about the whole thing it would've been a thousand times better than what we did do.

OTOH a lot of those cartoonists have always ranged from either consistently "grrr Democrats" to outright bonkers. You can search for pretty much any name from those cartoons and you'll find a steady stream of Really Bad Takes spanning from well before and well after 9/11.

Political cartoons are basically the original nuclear hot take format.

I love how the audio clearly does not match at all with his mouth movements so it looks like they just chromakeyed some other speech he gave for something else and slapped a take he recorded in the bathroom of the Holyfield fight arena on top of it.

Last I recall, Donald Trump was purportedly happy his tower was the tallest in NYC once the 9/11 terrorist attack leveled the twin towers.

So it seems unlikely that he was speaking seriously, if he even said that at all.

Don't you tell me my business again.
I was on board with idea of rebuilding the towers just as they were only one floor taller and they could use that level as a memorial or museum or something, either on the ground floor or on the roof, and I'd still prefer that to that garish thing we put up in their place. It felt like it'd be the ultimate "gently caress you" response and a way to show the world we can rebuild and also keep that iconic skyline.

I don't remember if Trump wanted to do that or not but then again I don't care what Donald Trump thinks about anything so...

Taking over Australia

quote:

Ms Van Lieshout, a former teacher who has run as a right-wing political candidate in Western Australia, has been charged with impersonating a Commonwealth official and importing a prohibited import.

Police also recovered 470 fake badges which had been sent to an address in Cairns and then dumped in a creek.

They allege Ms Van Lieshout was part of a group which discussed forming an alternative federal police force to arrest politicians and public servants, although police do not believe the group was capable of carrying out the acts.

The weird thing is that these aren't even "propaganda" as much as much as they were a genuine expression of the national mood at the time, which was totally hosed. If you wanted a silver lining of 9/11, it's that poo poo wouldn't happen that same way again - politics would not be "paused" to let authoritarians do whatever they want to the rapturous applause of the entire nation.

Yeah, some people were keener than that, but Bush's 90%+ approval rating speaks for itself.

Yes they would

Anytime part of the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act expired or the NSA wanted more authority in the Obama or Trump years politics was put on hold and it passed with bipartisan support.

Nancy Pelosi would go from telling us one day that Trump is a Russian agent who colluded with Putin to steal the election and destroy America from within, then put that all on hold the next day to expand his domestic surveillance powers.

Mitch McConnell would call Obama a Marxist terrorist communist tyrant one day then put that on hold to expand his powers.

Lots of places have gone back to mask mandates and also the vaccination rate continues to climb by about 1/10th a percent a day. Presumably, people getting tested are sequestering themselves. I'm wondering what she attributes that decline in rates, that Dems hate, too? Delta just petering out on it's own?

Or, you know, maybe it's the point of all this.

If you think that the goal of "the Left" is using the pandemic as justification to take away Our Freedoms, then any indication that the pandemic is getting any closer to not being a thing anymore is Bad News for the Left. It's pretty much the go-to worldview for the "covid is no big deal" crowd. It's not some big "gotcha" for them if you point this out, because the next sentence out of their mouth will be that covid is just like the flu, that you can beat it using vitamins/ivermectin, etc.
