This has been posted 4 or 5 times now & normally that'd make me grumble to myself but instead every time I've seen this just makes me smile. I'm not a huge MJF fan as an in-ring guy but as a character & a talker he is fantastic & the way he tells his mam to gently caress off like she's showing his first girlfriend embarrassing photos of him as a baby & small child is very enjoyable. It's good content & I'm fully prepared to see it posted another 10 times in the knowledge that tweet will always make me smile.

i didn't know or care about FTR before they came in, and i didn't "get them" really until well after their title rein (sadly, even if those defenses and that rein were iffy aside from the YB match), but as of now they're like one my "oh gently caress yeah" favorites every time i see them on the card

they're the team i hope has tons of influence on the development of the division and company/talent coming up, if not in exact moveset and style, but in just how loving seriously they take their craft, it oozes out of every facet of their ring work and outside the ring. Darby is one of those dudes who is always 100% for the entire match as well, and Sting is Sting, so i'm not surprised that match is a sleeper hit and will steal MOTN for some.

it's crazy how much intensity and dynamism little "hustle" poo poo adds into a match. every god damned time Cash Wheeler or Dax gets tagged, he's going to bulldog around you and block your corner, you don't even have to pretend to remember to be unable to make the tag or lazily sell being on dream street or just stand around, there's an easy way to cover that moment over in the match and they do it EVERY TIME, if you get within reach of one of them and the ref's not looking, they're gonna swipe at you, they make the ring this hostile battleground where every gently caress up and distraction is gonna lead to one of them throwing you on your rear end and kicking your head in, and it raises the floor/ceiling of every match they're in significantly just by their performance. imagine having a roster full of those dudes :allears:

it's crazy how many of those "next gear" guys AEW has right now and coming down the pipeline and the matches coming in the next years are gonna be insane

This might be a stretch but to me they're like Okada in that if you see a match if theirs in a vacuum you might not get it because nothing they do is ultra flashy or insane Fenix style athletecism. But everything they do do is perfect and as you watch more and more you realise "how the gently caress are they this good?" at getting the most out of nothing. There was a year where despite Young Bucks winning best tag team FTR/The Revival were the best tag team on the planet and should've won, hence the dream match aspects.

It's like goldy or bronzy, but made of iron.

To clarify something I said earlier, I wasn't pointing out AEW's deep bench as a problem at all. I absolutely love the fact that on any given night you can have a match between great guys who have never ever faced before. Or haven't faced in a decade. And that if someone gets hurt or needs time off for whatever reason there's a ton of guys who can step up and offer something different, and that talent gets cycled through enough that taking time off isn't in any way losing your spot. I love that, I love all of it.

I remember last year they had been building towards Lance Archer versus Jon Moxley for the world title after Archer won the Casino Battle Royal. And a day or so before it was due to take place, Archer popped a Covid test so couldn't compete. On the SAME DAY, they moved Eddie Kingston into position, with an in-built story about not being eliminated from the battle royal, and about his history with Mox. And it was a hell of a match. That's what you can do with a deep bench.

The show was amazing, up and down, it's amazing they just put that on television. Best two hours of wrestling in a company that typically wows me every week.

Sting is 62 years old and just seems to get better every match. What conditioning has he been doing!?

turn it all around

Really wild show and it felt like a big one. If I had any gripes, I think it'd be that Britt matches don't tend to build all that well for me. I feel like there's a point where things start to feel a little clunky and I get lost, then the finish happens and it's more of an "Oh, okay" than an exciting thing. I also wish Ruby would get a different finisher because that kick thing does not look great.

Other than that, I think most stuff was pretty great! I was a bit surprised to see Britt retain but not unhappy about it. I think it makes sense on your biggest show to have your reigning champion go over a person who just came in from the other major company. Plus, there's still steam in her reign and it's gonna loving rule when Thunder Rosa beats her for the belt.

Was surprised to see Darby & Sting get the win, but again – only sort of, and not really unhappy about it. If anything, I think I was expecting a loss due to Tully interference to further build to whatever is happening with Sting/Tully down the road.

The ending of Black/Cody was also a bit clunky with the Arn spots and Black scooting under the ring to get the mist. It wasn't the worst and you kind of knew something fishy was going to happen, so you were just waiting to find out what it was going to be. I did love Arn falling twice because the first fall was a legit "OH poo poo" moment for a second, and him yelling at Cody to gently caress off and get back in the fight was really, really great.

What can be said about Danielson/Omega? It loving ripped. I agree with what some others have said about liking how it ended with them fighting on even ground rather than one of them being in a submission or something and the bell ringing before someone taps out. With them still beating the poo poo out of each other at 30 minutes, it makes you wonder if either of them would be able to beat the other with a 60 minute time limit.

I'd say he's always been a tweener. It's why he always comes out of the middle of the stage instead of one of the tunnels, even in Daily's when he couldn't have his special lift.

I would have argued the same was true of Mox & coming through the crowd until they gave him Wild Thing. At the start of AEW he was definitely tweenin for quite a while

Malakai Black also enters from the middle.

Also, Cody’s seconds each entered from different tunnels last night (Brandi- heel, Arn - Face). He knows what he’s doing.

I appreciated that the Omega/Daniels match ended with them just punching the poo poo out of each other. Not a dramatic draw where Kenny gets the OWA off but not enough time for the 3 count, or Daniels locking in his submission but Kenny holding out until the time limit; just 2 dudes punching the gently caress out of each other and not caring about the time limit.

Even the post-match was great. AmDrag can point out he got the LeBell on Kenny at like 30:25 but Kenny can claim he had his guard down because the match was over.
