Am I crazy considering spending real money (>$300) on a doorbell chime that's not an ugly plastic box? This is one of the first things you see when entering the house, so I'm thinking I'm not absolutely crazy. I may stew on it until winter - anyone know of any other options? These are the main folks I found. https://electrachime.com/collections/all https://electrachime.com/collections/all/products/metro-walnut

Where is your doorbell that it matters? The doorbell was in the closet in my parent's house. Why don't you just get rid of the door bell and get a fancy as hell door knocker instead?

They do also make actually good looking doorbell chime covers. Etsy is a good source and House of Antique Hardware has them sometimes. They’re kind of a nice middle ground imo.

It could be the nostalgia talking, but my grandparents' house was built in 1925 and had chimes very similar to this. So what I would say is, if this look is period-correct for your house, maybe it's not such a crazy idea after all.

Yeah, this is what I was considering doing when I installed a wired doorbell in my house. Way cheaper than buying giant chimes and you have a lot more options. I ended up deciding I was fine with the white plastic cover since it's in an inconspicuous place, but for a while was considering something from here: https://www.artsandcraftsman.com/doorbell-covers Etsy is also a great place to look, as BadSamaritan mentioned. um excuse me posted:Where is your doorbell that it matters? The doorbell was in the closet in my parent's house. Why don't you just get rid of the door bell and get a fancy as hell door knocker instead? My house has a big dumb coat closet right when you walk in. This is the current view (there's stairs to the right, living room with vaulted ceilings to the left. I'll probably look at etsy for covers for another option, but yeah there's something neato about a huge old school door chime with 3' long chimes that almost certainly sound amazing.

I am super surprised not a single one of those homes appears to be a timber frame/SIPS build. Though most emulate the aesthetic. Actually 2, 3, and 4 look like they could be, but it's hard to tell if they're using joinery for load bearing or are just aesthetic. um excuse me fucked around with this message at 03:00 on Sep 27, 2021 |

the living room is finally being painted goodbye forever softer tan, and gently caress you welcome ballet white! white with brown undertone, but not so white that it clashes with the dark brown countertops that's pretty dope if you want an early or mid-century look, not sure if it would go with that wall you posted though (which looks kind of purple?) actionjackson fucked around with this message at 17:15 on Sep 28, 2021 |
