Can't you just use over-the-counter baby wipes? That's what I've been using. Have I hosed up? It's what a friend of mine who's a painter and has experience with respirators and someone in the old thread also said.

3Ms guide for cleaning respirators says you can use bleach or 70%+ isopropyl

• Sodium hypochlorite solution (at a free chlorine concentration of 5,000 ppm) with 1-minute contact time
• 70% Isopropanol solution with 1-minute contact time

quote:

Cleaning and Disinfecting 3M Half and Full Facepieces

1) Cleaning is recommended after each use. Nitrile or vinyl gloves should be worn during cleaning as well as other personal
protective equipment (PPE) as indicated.

2) Remove any filters or cartridges. The facepiece may be further disassembled as necessary.

3) Inspect the facepiece per the User Instructions to identify any damage or excessive wear. Replace components or the
entire facepiece as necessary.

4) Manually clean the facepiece by immersing it in warm water not to exceed 120°F (49°C), and scrub with soft brush until
clean. Add neutral detergent. Do not use cleaners containing lanolin or other oils. NOTE: Solvents and strong detergents may damage 3M facepieces and should not be used for cleaning.

5) Rinse thoroughly with fresh warm water.

6) Disinfect by soaking, wiping or spraying the facepiece according to the user instructions for the selected disinfectant, including application and contact time. NOTE: Do not soak the HF-800 facepiece in disinfectant solution. The HF-800 facepiece has not been tested for compatibility with disinfection by soaking.

7) Rinse, wipe or spray the facepiece thoroughly with fresh warm water.

8) Air dry in a non-contaminated area.

9) Inspect and reassemble the respirator as described in the User Instructions.

10) The respirator should be stored in a non-contaminated area when not in use.

it turns out that outdoor festivals and sports games might not actually be so bad, especially if you require masks in occasional enclosed indoor spaces like bathrooms and have a large proportion of recently vaccinated people. too bad we can't actually do any studies or learn if that is true though since it would also find a bunch of places that are explicitly not ever safe such as restaurants and schools. guess we just gotta keep fumbling around blind guessing randomly like a bunch of brain damaged idiots

We accidentally ended up running a little experiment here in Melbourne which is 82% at least partially vaxxed, 53% fully vaxxed. People had been mostly sticking to the lockdown restrictions but it turns out a bunch of them decided to have sneaky BBQs with family or friends during our recent Grand Final long weekend:

(We'd also had a bunch of anti-lockdown protests which no doubt contributed to extra spread)

and to the other post about "outdoor events might not be so bad" they're completely unmasked from the pictures and we've been operating under an assumption from like that one contact trace where someone passed by an outdoor patio on their way into a store and gave it to someone with incredibly small contact time

I don't have any actual data to back this up, but anecdotally it's definitely better than 1/20 in CT. It's still absolute poo poo compared to last year, but bare faces are in the clear minority any time I'm in a grocery store or somewhere like a Target. I still see people wearing masks outside, too.

Of course, bars and restaurants are also full, so... not great.

baby wipes just have water and possibly a scent of some kind - there's no antimicrobial aspect to it because baby butts are very sensitive. chlorox wipes or whatever offbrand you get actually are antimicrobial because they contain quaternary ammonium compounds

It's hard to understand the mindset that a lot of these small business owners have if you're not already a tremendous rear end in a top hat. You're "struggling" if anything threatens the infinite growth you were relying on to buy a bigger boat or a bigger truck.
