I wish I could remember which podcast it was on because it was loving years ago, Gallows tells an incredible story about meeting HTM at a company afterparty for mania one year. The punchline is him saying something like “hell of a party they put on for us huh” and HTM’s reply was “This all comes out of your paycheque you loving mark”

I was on a film set with an old indy wrestling manager who had all kinds of road stories and one of my favourites was a story he heard from Honky Tonk Man. Basically HTM goes to the promoter after the show and finds the dude in the back with a bag of blow and dude is super evasive about the payoff. Says he's gotta make sure the venue gets their cut, gotta talk with the merch table to make sure everything's accounted for, blah blah blah. Dude is so clearly trying to get out of paying out that he bolts to the front of house to "Check the receipts" and forgets his bag. "So I took the cocaine" became a running joke between us for the rest of the shoot.

Has anyone ever done the trading strikes spot but then one of them just says "gently caress it" and hits a DDT or something? Like, it wouldn't have made sense with the story Danielson and Suzuki were telling but it would be kind of funny and a good heel move. Then they could brag about how their strikes were clearly superior.

What does it mean to say that a wrestler is a good "base"? At first I thought it meant like a wrestler has a good center of gravity while grappling and wouldn't be easy to take down but it feels more like in terms of a matchup.

Even if you're not a flippy person a lot of bumps require a post to be safe and having a solid partner who is stable, comfortable with contact and can move to compensate for lack of or too much momentum makes a match that much smoother and safer.

With that in mind then, who else would be an example of a good "base"? I'm thinking, like, maybe Eddie Guerrero before he got too roidy and worn out?

Black Taurus is the current base of choice especially given his rivalry with El Hijo del Vikingo Someone here said a whiles back that Ultimo Guerrero is the GOAT of bases

Brian Cage is seen as a guy who's sole benefit to wrestling these days is his ability to be a base. Cesaro has already been mentioned but it should be stressed he's REALLY good.

I'd apply it to anyone with a low center of gravity, so Leyla Hirsch easily falls into that category.

I think it's a bit of both. It's definitely gotta be hard to unlearn the instinct to avoid a big heavy mass landing on you, but to not improve after 15 years is on him.
