We really need to put together a scale of reputable, effective masks from "normieflage" N95s to "full Bane" elastomerics + kid options and whatnot. It's been almost two years, masks are a solved problem at this point and there's definitely thread recommendations. We should compile them.

Historically, a one day holiday (like labor day) takes at least a week to catch up, so Thanksgiving is even worse. I wouldn't expect solid numbers til mid next week It's funny to see death average below 1k though due to this

By definition, the strain that broke out in Wuhan can't have had zero mutations - otherwise it wouldn't have been able to infect humans at all.

OK baizuo posted:So we have Japan and Israel, two countries with high rates of vaccination of mrna vaccines, closing borders I mean I'm as doomer as the rest of this thread, but I also think it's worth noting those are also two countries with super old populations. It's possible their data is showing that Omicron is vaccine evading, but it seems almost more probable in some ways that the data is showing it's the straight up boomer remover. We've already established governments don't care about the masses dying. But if the elderly elite die? Maybe that will spook them.

Why Am I So Tired posted:With the partner thing it's a lot harder, and I have no idea how people are having mixed-COVID-response marriages. My wife isn't following things quite as closely as I am and occasionally she gets angry and calls the respirator / our degree of isolation psychotic, but when it comes down it, she's never once put me at risk and she wore the respirator for the riskiest thing either of has done (drive my MIL's car back from the shop with the windows down after 24+ hours of the shop having worked on it). I'm thankful every day. I would not be able to be married to someone anywhere on the Open Biden spectrum. From many pages ago, but I can't really see mixed-COVID-response households making sense in any fashion. My housemate was getting really antsy this summer and grumping about how cautious I still was, but we worked out seeing how things went through the end of this upcoming winter, and that was the end of the disagreement. Then B.1.617.2 and friends came along and she ed.
