E: Funi's F'ed up TV app threw the Ep2 subs of Bisque Doll into Ep1 so I got the little kid being wide eyed at dolls and gramps saying "oh. The title is pretty long... Saint :h:'s Slippery Girls Academy" :xd:

(I do hope it doesn't end up being another adaption that sucks all the charm out of the source material though)

that's an odd choice. it's a good, but very short, unfocused manga. they'll have to really struggle to get one cour's worth of material out of it.

it seems like something that could do better as short episodes that would better match the individual chapters

It got more focused near the end (well where the scanlation stopped) as all the random characters got pulled in to one plot. Otherwise though, I agree; the chapters are so short that I can’t see how you make episodes out of it unless you do mini ones like Honda-san.

Am I missing any good shows this season? Attack on Titan is cool, Sabikui Bisco is fun, and Ranking of Kings is still going. I guess I'll be watching Priconne just to see how high they can crank up the saturation knob, and Bisque Doll might be good, but everything else just seems like endless trash.

New Demon Slayer is pretty fun. Other than that and what you listed can't think of anything else "Good." There are a couple of "Okay" shows but yeah it's pretty bleak.

ive managed to successfully dodge attack on titan spoilers so far, with a few close calls. loving reddit of all things seems intent on dropping spoilers, so i had to take some desperate measures.
demon slayer is really surprising, didn't expect it to be that good, first season and the movie were just alright in my book.
cosplay show is interesting and has very good art at the very least, will keep watching for a few more episodes unless it suddenly gets really bad.
does ousama ranking count? it's still going and it's phenomenal.

The Bisque Doll manga is a consistently charming (and surprisingly educational) romcom, so the source material is unlikely to be a dealbreaker if you've enjoyed it so far. There is the chance of a Cloverworks production meltdown, but that's the only big potential problem I can see.

Cloverworks has three shows going on right now so one may be offered as a sacrifice to the God of Production Meltdowns to spare the other two.

Akebi-chan is one of them and is very cute and seems to be easing off of the fanservice of the source material while still highlighting its good points.

Other series that seem good this season: Kaijin Kaihitsubu is a workplace comedy, but the workplace is the monster creation laboratory of an evil organization from Tokusatsu series and also features Local Heroes found in Japan. Slow Loop is another CGDCFishingT but with a greater focus on the characters' families. Dangerous Lifehacker is a short series that is basically about a ladygoon.

in terms of nonsequel noncontinuations, the shows i'm hooking onto so far are

Slow Loop aka sloop - i feel like this is a good counterpart to just having watched Teibou, 1) i don't have any preconceived notions about the characters to disappoint me and 2) it having more character focus gives me exactly what i felt was missing from Teibou despite its other strengths

Sabikui Bisco - the first two eps are needlessly disjointed but aside from that this has been a lovely bit of weirdness and bombast. the energy makes me think more of Needless but the Dorohedoro comparisons aren't off base either. there's also notable directorial staff crossover between this and a recent classic of stupidity (affectionate), ID:invaded.

Tokyo 24 - the impending production disaster will probably make or break this as a series that leverages action blockbuster sensibility for its appeal. there could still be promise in how they handle the plot points regarding implementation of a Minority Report-esque crime/accident detection system and the interpersonal drama from the death of the cast's childhood friend.

Tribe Nine - this is exactly what it looks like, Danganronpa-flavor baseball incl. (sometimes annoyingly) blasting soundtrack. actually not a huge DR fan but i can appreciate the sensibility in Akudama Drive and this. also has been a bit since i watched a stupid superpower sports show.

Bisque Doll/Akebi - the non-doomed Cloverworks shows, not much to add on Bisque aside from ep2 was a bit of a drag. the premise and potential is enough i'm still on board though. with Akebi i'm just loving the texture given to everything through the animation and direction, and it has been a strange and funny thing to watch unfold. bonus points as Misaki Kuno returns to fill the Frederica-sized hole in our hearts with another performance as a goblin of a little sister.

oh and it's breaking the sequel season rule but people should be watching Vanitas or putting it on the waitlist for after bluray releases go up. in the wait for more Bungo Stray Dogs, Bones has been keeping their homoerotic battle shonen muscles stretched with this, helmed by a longtime Shaft director who brings some of that trademark style to France/Alterna-VampFrance.

i will probably keep with Hakozume but am finding it a bit drier than i'd like. Fantasy Knockout i need more than just the premiere to judge, not an amazing first impression comedically/gayly. still have high hopes for Ryman's Club but that's more than a week away yet.

I'm gonna amend my earlier comments on Dress-Up Darling based on having made progress in the manga.

(story) Yes indeed, he does get over his excessive discomfort over sexuality, at least to a good extent, actually serving as character development and nicely progressing the dynamic of the two lead characters.

At this point it's a solid win, fully recommended to anyone and everyone. It's nice seeing a romance narrative prioritizing the friendship between the couple rather than the actual "romance" itself, as it creates very substantial depth.

More on the manga (thematically): The open criticism the narrative continues to make of gender roles and expectations is really really good.

Akebi-chan's Sailor-fuku is gorgeous looking, and all the characters are so emotive. I knew nothing about it going in and had no idea where they were going to go with the concept of "a girl really wants to wear a sailor uniform" but as soon as I realized what was going on at the entrance ceremony I was hooked.

well, neither entirely eats the other until the big action finale. there's a whole New York date episode before that and it's lovely, smh in general the Takt/Destiny relationship is a big part of what even makes the show work for the times it does.

Man I really have no idea where this Leadale show is going with this. At first it seemed like a kind of interesting idea to explore, what happens to the MMO world 200 years after the game, but the answer so far seems to be "nothing happens, everything's boring".

The first book is largely goofy slice of life stuff, with hints of more typical isekai shenanigans towards the end. The second book is a little heavier on isekai plots as Cayna realizes that there are other players trapped in Leadale as well, possibly including one of her friends. I haven't read the third novel, though there was hints about some kind of threat that's hard to take seriously when Cayna is widely acknowledged to be powerful enough to wipe out a country on her own.

The anime so far has cut out a lot of the slice of life stuff, such as her learning to hunt and murdering a bunch of powerful monsters or having to be taught the value of money so she doesn't crash the economy, presumably in favor of trying to get to the more typical isekai plots from the later novels.

PORN WIZARD
So venturing into the more who gives a poo poo offerings of this season aka "I watch the bland poo poo so you don't have to!":
Orient: The most lazy, uninspired shonen trash I have ever watched. The world building is bland, the monsters are bland, the power system... who cares. The characters are actively trying to make the Naruto big 3 less interesting. Maybe I am just spoiled by Jujutsu Kiasin which did the genre so well. Also the MC's weapon is a double sideded scythe, which even if you aren't a weapons nerd this should give you a bad case of the WTFs. I feel like the target demographic of this show is exclusively mall ninjas. If you think this weapon looks cool you might like this show.
The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest: Take Anos Voldigoad, and strip away all of his over the top charisma (the part that made his show fun in a guilty pleasure sort of way), and you have the the MC of this series. Also the main twist of the show? Everyone thinks his crest (A glyph on the hand the dictates how the wearer uses magic) of the MC is the weakest of them all. But get this, it's actually the best one, the whole world was tricked into thinking it was the weakest! And he is so OP no one even comments on his crest after ep 1. So the title should really be "The Strongest Sage with the Strongest crest that everyone else thinks is the weakest for some reason, but then they don't." The titular weakest crest doesn't hold him back in the slightest beyond a few comments.
She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise man: You know those isekai where a MMO player gets sucked into a real version of the game as their character? This is one of those, but with a twist! The twist being the MC mained a Gandalf clone, but he was playing around with character settings right before the cross over and ended up as a moe blob instead of his preferred avatar. Zero other changes though, he is still an "I win" button pressing cheat character. He pretends he is the student of a legendary OP character instead of the actual OP character so people don't ask questions about him being a cute girl instead of an elderly wizard. His cheat power is mass CGI summons that look... okay I guess? Not the worst but bad enough it makes me wish they never animate Solo Leveling because now I know that is how mass summons will look. None of the characters are even remotely interesting.
