I think both Ave Xia Rem Y and Forge of Destiny does more-or-less the same thing better. A lot of people bail on Fates Parallel when the hostile mind control character gets introduced, and that's where I stopped reading too.

Forge of Destiny has very little in common with Fates Parallel beyond the superficial setting details.

Just let yourself become a worthless person!
Despite its atrocious name, Ave Xia Rem Y is definitely my favorite Western cultivation web serial. It’s exciting, it’s interesting, the protagonist is easy to root for, and the writing is good enough that I never notice it being bad, which is more than I can say for many other series I like.

What’s with all the healers in web serials, though? It’s definitely a trend, at least. I know Azarinth Healer is super popular; are there just a lot of readers who went looking for similar themes and helped support other stories with protagonists who spent their time curing diseases or helping with injuries?

Probably a reaction against all the web serials where the MCs are murder hobos. Then healing hobos got popular although I only know of two healer web serials personally.

I read some of Azarinth Healer! Nobody who read it would look for stories about people who spend time curing people for 'similar themes,' because despite the name Azarinth Healer is about a martial arts berserker who spends huge amounts of time ripping apart dragons in the wilderness to grind XP -she only heals herself.

She can definitely heal other people, and once she finally leaves the woods and meets them she actually does that, but the main benefit is the ability to heal herself. It's certainly not a story about a healer the way Beneath the Dragoneye Moons is. It is one of the few I've read that improves in quality as it goes along though if you got turned off by the beginning.

It's probably a combination of Azarinth Healer and that if the world is realistic then hybrid healers are going to be required if not ridiculously overpowered.

I finally read Ave Xia Rem Y and binged it over the last week or so. It is great although I'm not sure how I feel about over 100 chapters in find out out the title isn't a joke and a harem is looking likely.

It does do a good job of subverting some tropes while also delivering some cliches in a well thought out manner. The characters are likable and mostly feel real.

Huh. I have passed over that story several times as I periodically forget what the title stands for, find out again, and “nope no harem stories.” Maybe I’ll give it a shot.

I don't think its really leaning that way? Like if the story was going to go there it probably would have by now.

I do foresee a very, very awkward love triangle between the Chicken, Rat and Rabbit though :v:

Yeah, I 100% think as the more typical Xianxia protagonist he'll have a weird harem and the author has definitely been playing with that idea.

I meant more about the Sexual Content and Traumatizing Content tags at the top of BoC. It did kind of flirt around a harem with the leaf girl but glad it didn't go that way.

Definitely makes sense for Bi De to have the harem. He has his hens too and is the real xanxia mc.

The difference between polyam and harem basically is the lack of wholesomeness I guess.

Jin just being a dude who's really into his wife and has no interest in complicating things is a more interesting story though.

A key ingredient of harem that people don't really acknowledge is the fact that the guy never matches the women's enthusiasm or devotation.

It's about one-way affection that doesn't cost you any emotional labor.

I don't think Chicken could do that without no longer being Chicken.

No.

Well, I guess the MC's boss is a female in a few story arcs. The general attitude towards women does not significantly change. Ave Xia Rem Y knows exactly what tone it is aiming for and never deviates significantly from it.

Same reason people watch those awful NC17 harem animes that are all identical. It's softcore porn for people with anime poisoning, but in this case some kind of bizarre translated web novel poisoning. When it's in western genres it seems to make even less sense than normal so I dunno there.

in the case of ave xia it isn't an actual harem story at this point and while i guess the title promises that it will be one day, it's very good in the absence of a harem and i'm guessing that the "harem" is probably going to be more of a poly relationship than a traditional harem since the main character is a fundamentally decent person

everyone that likes xianxia should read at least the first arc if nothing else
