In order to make the tournament work we need one more living team (which is why I was trying to find someone else or hoping one of the inactive players wanted to return). Seemed like it would be better for it to be a defeatable challenge rather than a team that was either too good or too bad to me (Kale's stats suggest if semi-properly managed it would be about a just-below-median team). I'm definitely open to feedback about it though if y'all don't agree.

So it turns out that Fleaflicker's Help Guide states a lot of things that don't really work as presented. Need to edit MLK Day rosters after the fact? No problem! Want the Scores to immediately update and reflect those roster changes? Nope, can only do that after the week ends! Want to remove teams mid-season? Sure! Want the prior results to remain unaffected? No chance! And so on, so forth... In hindsight I should have made a fake league and used it as my Dev Mode to try poo poo without any risk. Ah well, onto Plan Ç! I took the standings thru Week 14 and made 6 pods of 2 (top2, next2, ...). We'll all play 1 team from each pod over 6 weeks, which forms a balanced half-round-robin. Then I looked at individual games from the first 13 weeks to find the closest outcomes, and set up rematches during these 6 weeks.  (Legend is in the top-left corner.) Shadowfax is King Clutch EricCartman is the Heartbreak Kid So the !!! will nearly all be scheduled anew, and then the rest of the pairings will fill in the gaps. kalensc fucked around with this message at 02:53 on Jan 22, 2022 |

As for scheduling, I went through the 36 "pair squares" (the 2x2 boxes) to finalize the matchups. If a !!! was in a pair square then it would make the schedule, and thus the other two teams in the pair square would as well. If no !!!, then the ! game would occur. If neither, then the *. And if there were zero markings then it was whichever seemed most logical.  Example: Orc Setting Picks had a very narrow loss vs Shadowfax (pink !!! cell) so they will rematch. The other two teams in their pair-square were Saruman Blew 3-1 and EricCartman. That will also be added to the schedule, and the cell is now colored light yellow. One problem arose: the temporary schedule made for this week (back when the plan was 2 divisions and so on) has 3 matches that aren't indicated on the grid. I've filled those in with bright green. Ideally, those 6 teams would be rearranged to fit the grid, so as to not break the symmetry inherent in the design:  (Note: there are 4 unique ways to pair these 6 teams) That being said, I didn't want to make these scheduling changes unannounced and surprise half the league when they logged in. That'd be a rather frustrating thing to see, especially if the GM hadn't seen this post before checking the standings/scores. So, there's three ways to go about this: (1) select the schedule option which fits the grid while minimizing the average change in lead/deficit per GM; (2) select the schedule option which fits the grid while minimizing the average new lead/deficit per game; (3) randomly select one of the four options. (1) would compare each GM's lead/deficit vs the temporary opponent vs the lead/deficit with possible new opponent, and average the differences. Best Option: SaruHoop vs Rondo, Balrog vs EricCart, Boromir vs The Orcs (2) would just look at the each of the four optiins and average the current score margins of the three matchups. Best Option: SaruHoop vs EricCart, Boromir vs Balrog, Rondo vs The Orcs (3) would be governed by a fateful pair of coin flips. Guess it will depend on if anyone has a strong preference, or if they all seem fine to y'all so I should just select one and make the edits.

MLK adjustments: I looked at the rosters that were set to see if anyone was notably disadvantaged. My criteria were as follows: - a spot in the starting lineup was empty, or filled with a player that was on IR before tip-off; - a player playing that day was on the bench, was on the taxi squad AND another rookie was free for a swap, or was on IR but was healthy AND could be activated without cutting another player. I did not consider situations where a line-up with 10 active players scored a suboptimal total. Hindsight plays too big a factor there IMO (and FWIW my roster falls in this category, with 210 points on the sidelines). Haha the two abandoned teams are still being considered for the Median even after I removed them from the schedule. Giving out 7 Median wins among 12 teams feels inequitable. And given that some GMs have made adds/drops solely due to the median, dropping it entirely isn't an option. Guess I'll be do some weekly MacGyver poo poo to make the median split it 6 and 6. Awarding one of the two phantom teams 2k points would be a solution. What a silly conundrum.
