I've been hurt by words on this very forum by people who have attacked me, insulted me, and at times said i'm a fraud as a progressive because i have, repeatedly, failed at preferred pronouns and have ended up stuck wondering if they are right. Because while this is also not real this is who i am, and i always post with complete sincerity, so i take my views and posts personally and when people don't and they just let fly with "lol you're such a fuckwit" or are holier than thou its genuinely hurtful rather than "its not real".

I wasn't angry at them, I was angry at myself for being a fraud. All the right words and failing, and the anger came about because all the support in the post was for naught.

I think it might be worth taking a step back. There's a lot of tongue-in-cheek posting in this thread and EMF is particularly known (in my opinion) for ironic posting. The internet is real. That in trying to express how hurt and ashamed I have felt by people here, some for no reason some to just show up out of nowhere just to kick me and then act smug, and the first reply is a sarcastic "you don't get it" over one part of the post is the worst loving feeling. I'm flawed, but I try and better myself. I am not a paragon, nor can ever hope to be, but I keep trying to always be on the side of the angels. I don't pretend to be some higher than thou poster with the greatest insights, or the greatest knowledge, but I always try and fight for whats right. I was being forthright, to be clear - - I think you took the wrong lesson and are a bit over focused on people being lovely for you as if it was unprovoked or if misgendering is something they should've overlooked because you thought the rest of your post was good enough. people have no obligation to be nice to others who have slighted them, and if you find out that you've wronged someone the answer isn't to despair over it for the foreseeable future but instead to shake yourself off, apologize, and make even more of an effort to do better in the future. also this forum (not you Lid) still could really use more people posting genuinely instead of fakeposts drenched in irony
