No, the dude's actually a huge Putin fan, and endorsed his takeover of Crimea in 2014. They should've sacked him them.

(and by "sacked", I mean they should have hit him in the face with a scrotum. And fired him.)

Correct. Aircraft poop out flares to confuse heat seekers. In some aircraft this is automated, where you enable the system and it starts flaring if it detects a launch via, eg, little IR cameras watching the ground. I have no idea if Russian gear has these kinds of systems but if you see US birds with little web cam looking things, that's the kind of stuff they're for.

lol maybe, but here's how things seemed to have gone down:

1. twitter videos are shared of a Ukrainian jet(s) over Kyiv, which was surprising because people were expecting overwhelming Russian air dominance
2. twitter posts are shared that mention an amazing, lone, "ghost of Kyiv" jet fighter standing up to the Russian assault
3. people start calling any Ukrainian jet in any video the "ghost of Kyiv"
4. this inspires video gamer streamer dude to make a ghost of Kyiv fan fiction video, which he posts on twitter
5. everyone shares that video as if it's real, 69,000 times
6. everyone learns it's fake
7. people start claiming that video game guy started the whole thing

It would be 1000x dumber and funnier if it all originated from a video game though.

They removed Sberbank from the list because it's so tied to the energy sector apparently, which I assume means that some european countries needs to somehow conduct bank transactions to pay for russian gas.

This conversation started out with the claim the TOW, a wire guided missile, can't fly over water. It is in fact something you control.

Former Marine TOW gunner here.

It's hard enough to hit a stationary target on land with no cover, I wouldn't even want to think about trying to hit something in the water with one. First when you fire it it's loud, like my hearing will never recover from forgetting to put hearing protection on one time at the range loud, second you lose visibility for the first few seconds due to the exhaust gasses released by the launch motor. finally guidance comes down to trying to keep the destination point on target, You are trying to keep a small target reticle over a object at a distance and if you've ever tried to track an object through a scope is not the easiest thing in the world requiring small steady corrections. To hit something like a landing craft in the water which will be moving and bobbing erratically would require you fly the TOW above the surface and then try to push it down at the last instant without breaking the wire which would be extremely difficult given that it's fast and you don't necessarily have a good idea of where it is relative to the target in the course of flight which is why generally the way you fire is get it out of the tube without flinching too much and messing with the flight path at launch then use micro corrections (because you don't want to break the guidance wire) to ease it back onto target. This would probably be easier with the APC mounted hammer head model but you're still having to deal with the period of no visibility and the fact that any rapid course corrections have the risk of breaking the guidance wire.

If I were targeting a landing craft I'd just wait until it came ashore when it's fully exposed and vulnerable anyway.
