[Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser] called the European cooperation in caring for Ukrainian refugees historic. "For the first time, all EU states are taking in war refugees together. I hope that this solidarity will also help us in the next steps towards a common asylum system," said Faeser.

This was/is a major issue during the Syrian civil war, due to several countries using refugees to extract political concessions or just not lifting a finger, despite the number of people arriving being absolutely trivial if every EU country did a little bit. Having tanks rolling across a neighbouring country may give some impetus to actually properly formalise a proper system and implement it.

Because 10 million displaced Ukrainians are kind of a lot.

The problem, however, is that splits such as those shown above are at the heart of Putin’s dominance of domestic politics. People who are critical of Putin enthusiastically swear at each other and accumulate grievances. For some «liberals» it turns out that you cannot vote for Alexei Navalny because he once went to nationalist rallies. Neither can you back the Communist Party of the Russian Federation — because they are «Stalinists.» Nor must you endorse the «New People» — because they supported the recognition of the DPR and LPR. Or Yabloko — because it is a leader’s party. Another write off now could be Roman Yuneman — because he supports the army in this war, etc. This list could be endless. The conditional «leftists» have their own similar list — someone is accused of the collapse of the USSR, another of religiosity, and so the contrary, of moving away from «traditional Russian religiosity,» that is, of atheism.

I also learned yesterday that several municipalities on the North Sea coast of Jutland have sizable Ukrainian minority communities.

The optics of Ukrainian refugees being almost entirely women, children and foreigners, with fighting age men going the other direction, from EU into Ukraine, is already a talking point on Twitter and I imagine will impact refugee politics in coming months and years.

Certainly nice for the units re: not having to be glued to the main weapon, but you also don't have the TOW problem of smoke from the outgoing rocket obscuring your sight line.

My understanding is that the operator watches a tv screen on his control unit, and the image is based on daytime or night camera on the tripod? In which case it doesn't matter, smoke can still temporarily obscure the camera.

But then I suppose it also offers the possibility that the operator might as well be in a bunker safe from retaliation, no need for line of sight to target? (Although then you lose situational awareness.)

Kinda doesn't matter. Even if the popular movements coalesced and unified, it's not like getting a majority of the vote in the Duma would accomplish anything by itself. That's now how Russia works.
