This war has popular support of Ukrainian population on a level or 70-95%, depending on the specific questions polled. “Don’t Ukrainians want Russia to permanently occupy some parts of its country” is a frankly insulting argument, especially for how often it gets repeated.

Still, an awful propaganda asset, but his role is to toss somewhat moderate opinions around and occasionally be shouted at by his peers for not being crazy enough. Without even looking it up, I can tell he was probably replying to someone hyperbolising what they said. Fake edit: It's dumber than that, but still an out of context clip. Apparently he was saying that if the West defeats Russia, they won't spare the opponents of the letter Z along with the rest of the Russians, and then said the stuff from the clip. Before that he also said that he wasn't a big fan of the Z himself and would rather see red stars on tanks instead.

Rad Russian posted:True. Probably need better experts to chime in on how those systems are rated. I assume there's a scale? Since it was one of the Ms listed improvement areas I assume it's just marketing speak for "it's like before but now actually works!" NBC systems use overpressure to keep the cabin habitable. Air is drawn in through filters rated for the threat, then pushed into the cabin at a pressure that is greater than ambient air pressure. That's it, that's how they keep the cabin safe. If the filters don't get changed or are missing, or if the blower is damaged or not operating at high enough pressure to achieve overpressure, the system doesn't work. The cabin itself can be swiss cheese and as long as enough air can be pushed in by the blower to make up for the new ventilation then everything is fine. Once the battle damage affects the filters or blower, it's no longer NBC rated at all. Better protection could be something as simple as a redundant blower and filter system in case the primary fails. John_A_Tallon fucked around with this message at 21:19 on May 4, 2022 |

Funnily enough some of the Russian vehicles have this exact same idea to maintain tire pressure in case they get a puncture to keep them mobile. It does not help when the tire catastrophically fails because they are 40 years old and have spent their entire life sitting on some junk yard exposed to weather.

Count Roland posted:It's far from clear that Ukraine will be able to retake the parts of Donbass that separatists have been controlling for years. If Russian forces fortify themselves they could be very hard to dislodge. For Russia to keep Ukraine out they are going to need to maintain a lot of heavy equipment in the field and I am not sure if they can keep doing that long term. One, they’re eventually going to run out of serviceable equipment, two, they’re going to run out of trucks, ammo and other support, and three they’re going to need to train fresh troops to operate anything pulled out of storage and I’m not sure they can do that quickly enough. If they don’t keep sufficient heavy equipment deployed there will be a huge mismatch between them and Ukraine, who is far more likely to want to continue the fight - the defending nation always fights harder and longer. So in a situation where the Russian heavy units go home they’ll be left with just light infantry and DPR/LPR militia arrayed against a highly motivated force equipped with a bunch of NATO gear and well supplied. Complete Russian defeat is inevitable in that situation. The other factor is the sanctions which seem to be ratcheting up every week that passes. The fossil fuel embargo hurts the west but as time passes the west has more options available to soften the blow while Russia’s options shrink. Even if they wanted to I don’t think socially or economically (and therefore politically) they can sustain this for anywhere near as long as Ukraine.
