I have a coworker that’s out at a protest in the Bay Area and I feel bad for her because I’m sure she’s got to realize at this point that it won’t make a bit of difference but there’s also nothing else she can do.

as a note there is nothing in this decision that stops a federal ban from being enacted. there are also lots of state extradition agreements that are about to be pretty troublesome and i wonder what will happen to some of these big companies who are saying they will openly flaunt the laws of the state they operate in.

I don't understand what possible things the court thinks the 14th amendment refers to?

"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

it's just vague to the point of meaninglessness. It's been used to ensure that people can freely travel between states, and no one has to worry that they'll get arrested for something that is legal in their state and legal nationally, but illegal in a specific state. According to this ruling if Florida decided that they could detain any pregnant women and prevent them from leaving the state, under the pretense that they are preventing an illegal abortion from happening, there is nothing any other state can do to get their resident back short of invading Florida, which would be a civil war. The 14th amendment was written directly after the civil war because it prevented this exact type of thing, where states became so dissimilar in their laws that a resident of New York could be arrested in Alabama for something legal in New York, functionally preventing entry. Could Utah just make a law against and arrest people with tattoos? Is getting a tattoo or any sort of body modification a "fundamental right spelled out in the constitution?"

With this ruling the 14th amendment is effectively dead and I see no reason why we don't rapidly lose the ability to legally travel to a bunch of states without fear of imprisonment or even death, and that's sort of how civil wars start.
