Apparently you don't even buy chapters, you rent them.

You get eight free "chapters" a day but as you can see by that screenshot they split original release chapters up.

It is bonkers that anyone could look at the direct competition being extremely cheap and giving you a ton of access and decided to be the exact opposite.

Someone got really into the whole NFT idea of renting out the mere observation of images.

The combination of paying to merely temporarily rent the chapters plus the chapters being split up (this part is probably the most insane) makes it seem like someone deliberately doing a comical parody of an unethical e-business.

Also the censorship making it look like there's nudity in situations where there isn't; I lol'd at some of those images, particularly the one with the lady in jeans with her crotch censored, like there's just a big hole in her jeans there.

No, I mixed up pages. I'd mixed a page from Akame ga Kill with a torture dungeon and mild censorship on any severed limb and the torso of a corpse with this page which has obvious censorship on the genital area.

Which makes me ask why bother having fan service series if this is what your going to put out?

If the rumors about Square Enix wanting to be bought by Sony are true, they might be heavily censoring everything to appeal to Sony.

That in of itself does not phase me cause webtoons are like that too.

That said, webtoon chapters are like 30 cents a chapter at most and in sites like Naver/Webtoon currently running webtoons become available for free anyways so there's no actual need to buy them.

Considering doing this. I know that the anime came out in the mid 2000s would you recommend the manga more or are the about equivalent?

I enjoyed the anime, but I would probably recommend the manga. It does the soul eater thing, of following the story up to a certain point, and then the last arc of the anime is a mix of stuff that does happen in the manga and stuff that doesn't (the characters that survive and that are defeated are different between the two), as well as rearrange the order of some of the manga story arcs and adds in a couple of filler arcs. You would need to read the manga to get the full ending anyways.

I do recommend afterwards watching some of the silly scenes the anime enhances though, like "Very Melon"

It's also just, literally cheaper to buy the physical manga. It's such a bad and scummy model, censorship issues aside.

Yeah, this was my thought too. I would be willing to put up with a lot of poo poo to just be able to read FMA on my phone but the absurd microtransaction bullshit means no go.

(The censorship is funny but I don't really read fanservice manga anyway so it's more amusing than a deal breaker, I can't think of anything in FMA they'd hit.)

HOWEVER
The possibly upcoming huge display of shock and awe from Luvius is not giving me good vibes and feels like the story is going to descend back into shonen fight purgatory.

Hes going to kick their collective butts, some characters may die/get retired, he retreats to do The Big Evil Plan™️, and then we descend into a flash training arc then 2 more years of endless battles

Earthchild has gotten a remarkable number of lucky breaks. Between it and Shugomaru, you kind of have to wonder about how poor the new submission pool is if these are the titles getting through.

amigolupus

Earthchild: So all these years have passed, and the husband never told anyone about god and what they do?

Witch Watch: The tall, older woman character's only 19? Get the gently caress outta here, Witch Watch.

Blue Box: That "Good Buck!" sticker is so cute. :3: Blue Box is just so comfy to read, and I want things to go well for all these kids.

Super Smartphone: I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but Super Smartphone's really getting me invested in the story and characters. It's a bit messed up that the emotional weight of Moura's redemption lies on using the Superphone to peek into his classmates' private chat, but it works because the guy really is pretty harmless all things considered.

Aliens Area: It's funny, but I've got a different vibe from it than you, Manatee Cannon. :v: It comes across to me more like two traffic cops hassling a person who parked at a wrong spot and hinting they'll bring ICE into this if they don't comply.

Doron Dororon: I can't tell if this is supposed to be the end of the first major arc, or if the author had to readjust their plans because they think they might get cancelled soon. Everyone's getting their big moments already, but some of them have only been introduced recently so it's a bit hard to get into it?

Sakamoto Days: Seems like we got two time limits at work now. I'm guessing Sakamoto will use up his remaining time to prevent Slur's plot to destroy the database, while Shin and Akira end up being the ones to actually find it.

Akane-banashi: It truly was worth the wait to see Akane's take on the story. Pairing the theme of Jugemu with the flashback to her own dad naming her hit me right in the feels. :unsmith:

I POSTED WHAT NOW!?
I’m pretty sure the editorial team told the Doron author “you’re being canceled once we have a bunch of new series ready to go, so go nuts until then” cause this feels like something that should happen near the end of a series.

ZepiaEltnamOberon

I Failed At Anime 2022
Akane-banashi: The manga just continues to impress immensely. They legit spent like 1/4 of the chapter just explaining the etymology of Jugemu's name and I was so fuckin' invested in it. Also, it's nice to see that the visual depiction of the story plays a part in the manga, where the audience 'sees' the characters instead of the performer, and that Hikaru's and Karashi's acts not really having that appeal to them was intentional on part of the author.

The act itself is also pretty interesting in the way Akane performs it; we're constantly told it's mainly viewed as a comedy, but the readers also have the benefit from knowing the true ending of the original story, so the last bit, where the mother plays peekaboo with baby Jugemu, has two sides to it. From the aspect of a comedic performance, it's the hilarity of the mother spending so much time reciting her baby's name that by the time she's uncovered her eyes, the baby's already wandered off somewhere. You could probably see something like this happen in a comedy movie or TV show or whatever. But from the aspect of a parent who's trying to raise a baby that won't die (which the manga notes was a real concern in those times), it's a lot more terrifying, and an inkling of how the long name, which is meant to symbolize the parents' hopes for Jugemu's longevity, will ultimately bring about his tragic demise.

I fuckin' love Akane-banashi, Jesus Christ.

Mashle: In a more shounen-like manga this would be moving; in Mashle, it doesn't really impress.

Roboco and Me: It's okay.

Sakamoto Days: gently caress yeah school shenanigans I love them school shenanigans. Also hyped to see a new trio form. Shin just keeps winning (at making new friends, not in actual fights).
