I AM UNJUSTIFIABLY PROUD OF MY SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE RECIPE

YES, IT IS AN INCREDIBLY SIMPLE DISH

NO, IT IS NOT NORMAL TO USE A PEPPERAMI INSTEAD OF MINCED MEAT

YES, THERE IS TOO MUCH SALT IN MY RECIPE

NO, I WON'T STOP SHARING IT

more like BOLLOCKnese
The interest rates rises are obviously bad for a lot of people but really it was incredibly irresponsible to just let borrowing be basically free for a decade. Like rates had to come up at some point even if it's not for the reasons BoE is saying

Also fun fact, the only times interest rates have solved inflation before is when they have been higher than inflation. Number can only go up uP UP

Apart from driver shortages there's a whole bunch of other stuff affecting the transport industry.

Fewer EU trucks mean less cabotage. A truck going from Spain to Scotland might pass through England and pick up additional cargo to deliver to Scotland. But with fewer trucks coming from the EU it means more British trucks are needed for making internal deliveries. The reason there's fewer trucks coming to the UK is because the additional Brexit paperwork is just too much hassle when there's high demand across the EU with virtually no bureaucracy. Oh, and your drivers might end up being criminalised if some poor refugee is found clinging to the rear axle of your vehicle.

The UK's licensing system has changed to deliberately make it more difficult for UK employers to check the license details of EU drivers. If you work for an EU company and have been driving haulage in the UK for more than 5 years, you're required to switch to a UK CPC license. Congratulations, now you have a license that isn't valid in the EU!

And our motorway services are loving abysmal compared to the facilities for drivers in most of Europe.

Done a google.
UK needs 100k drivers, which increases a few K per year due to retirement and such.
The Tories first asked for EU drivers to come over and help, and got 57 wasn't it? Lets say 100.
EU has its own driver shortage, and its more lucrative there, so gently caress all came over.

Then they spent £10 million to train 5000 to become HGV licenced for free.
So 5000 more but more than half wiped out due to retirement/leaving time period..
It usually costs £3-5k to train, and takes 6-10 weeks.
Who has 3-5k lying around.
So its as effective as a fly's fart in a hurricane.

what makes me suspicious is the answer to 'who has 3-5k lying around to train' is subsidies, grants incentives etc not... get rid of the test

Has there even been a single instance in history where a grand coalition of everybody from the liberals to socialists that didn't end with the socialists getting purged to grease the skids for fascism? Hungarian Revolution maybe. Although in that case it was nationalism that united the liberals and socialists against the minority populations Hungary.

yeah, considering Ramsay MacDonald in particular was (a) an incompetent Prime Minister (b) an arsehole who tried to sell Labour out to the Tories and was expelled from the party as a result, Labour in the 1930s is no model of electoral success to anyone but the Tories
