If COVID is a dangerous Chinese bioweapon that was unleashed on us to kill us all, then how can it also be a complete non-issue that is less dangerous than the flu?

If there was some secret government program to bribe hospitals to report deaths as COVID deaths, then why didn't Trump cancel this program since he was president and Republicans controlled both the Senate and the House of Representatives?

In fact, why didn't Trump destroy the deep state and arrest Hillary and Obama, given that he had four years to do so?

There's two different schools of thought on this and sometimes chuds will believe both of them depending on what's more convenient, but the answer is either 1) it was a Chinese bioweapon that was unleashed on us, but it wasn't to kill us, it was to give the evil liberal governments of the world an excuse to take away our freedoms and destroy our economy in the name of safety from the virus. The virus is less dangerous than the flu, but the government wants you to think it's dangerous to make our freedoms easier to take away.

Or, 2) the virus is deadly, but only if you don't take Ivermectin and HCQ, which are the cure for the virus (along with megadoses of vitamin C). Also the vaccine makes you more likely to die of the virus, as you can see from this data that I've cherrypicked to say that the majority of deaths were from vaccinated people. But the government is forcing vaccinations on people and refusing them the life saving horse paste to purposely kill people.

Sean Hannity Threatens to Sue John Fetterman for Suggesting He ‘Lies’

https://news.yahoo.com/sean-hannity-threatens-sue-john-034630023.html

quote:

An upset Sean Hannity ramped up his attacks against Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman on Tuesday night, at one point floating legal action toward the Keystone state’s lieutenant governor.

The night prior, Hannity said on his Fox News show that he had invited Fetterman, whom he labeled a “very lazy, Bernie Sanders-loving, socialist, trust-fund-baby brat,” to debate. This followed the Fox host catching wind of the Democratic candidate sending out a fundraising message that noted an appearance on Hannity by Dr. Mehmet Oz, Fetterman’s opponent whom Hannity has endorsed.

“‘Can you please rush a donation of $25 right now to help me … fight back against future Fox News attacks?’” Hannity said, quoting the Fetterman campaign. “‘We’ve got to counter Sean Hannity with as much grass roots support as possible.'”

On Tuesday, Hannity huffed about Fetterman, who is leading Oz in recent polls, and how he is “refusing” to debate both of them. Hannity also accused Fetterman of “lying” about him and “raising money off of” his name.

“He apparently sent yet another fundraising text today attacking me, lying about me [and] calling me a liar,” Hannity complained. “Every day [that] he lies about me I will continue to tell the truth about his radical, extreme positions [that are] way out of touch with the hard-working people of Pennsylvania.”

“By the way, my trust-fund-brat friend, I will attack you back 10 to 100 times harder because you are a lying loser and raising money for your losing campaign,” continued Hannity. Then, addressing his audience: “He may be hearing from my lawyers very shortly. He better hope that mommy and daddy have enough money to pay his legal bills.”

Hannity was pretty upset about Biden actually doing an unquestionably good thing today. Started off saying it was a giant handout to wealthy people, saying Biden doing it was actually illegal (and playing audio from Nancy Pelosi from last year saying the same thing), and the biggest one was saying it would make inflation worse.

So okay. I guess if you want to just say "More money chasing goods means that money is worth less, therefore inflation," then sure, technically student loan forgiveness will result in people having more money to spend on things, which would increase inflation. By a fairly tiny amount, but sure, let's just assume this is correct. The problem is that one of the major things Hannity (and the GOP in general) champions is lower taxes. By the same logic that student loan forgiveness will cause people to have more money and make inflation worse, so too would lowering taxes also cause people to have more money and make inflation worse! It's the exact same loving logic!

Almost like Hannity and the GOP are being disingenuous or something. Weird. That'd be a first.

Spending money on anything that doesn't kill, torture, or arrest people is a giant handout to wealthy people and drives inflation.

On the other hand, spending money on the army or the security state isn't a giant handout to wealthy people and doesn't drive inflation.

Almost like Hannity and the GOP are being disingenuous or something. Weird. That'd be a first.

There's no mechanism by which the student loan forgiveness can cause any real inflation. First, there's been a payment moratorium on these loans for the last 2-3 years already. So any immediate impact of this has already occurred and is already priced into the economy. The other thing is that these are loans designed to be paid off over a period of 20 years (or the rest of your life, lmao) so it's not like people are getting checks for their loan amount. They just don't have to start making loan payments again which means this $10,000 per person is being split over like 20 years. That's meaningful, but not really anything that's gonna move the needle on the economy in any real way.

The real impact of this is going to be freeing up money that can be used to pay for rent or groceries. Then a long term side benefit is that it will be easier for people to potentially take out other kinds of debt later for things like homes, but again, it's $10,000 per person so... pretty small.

JohnClark
Mar 24, 2005

Well that's less than ideal
Megan McCardle is very mad at Joe Biden for forgiving some student loan debt, and also very concerned about what this means for the economy and the supposedly shaky legal basis for doing this.

But, because she's Megan McCardle, she can't avoid saying something hilariously stupid.

I don't think it will be quite the magic bullet I hope it will - 10k is a lot of money but my girlfriend (we are both in our mid 40s) still has about 40k left of her debt after that. It's a dent but not absolution. Her brother on the other hand will be debt free after this. So it's a net good but doesn't go far enough IMO, given how some people have paid their entire stated loan off but have the same amount left in interest. It's predatory.

But as we have seen time and again, when poor people are given money, they spend it into their economy. So I'd be surprised if we don't see some benefit there. Will the media report it though? I dunno.

The IDR caps and the interest freeze when you are a payer in good standing (even if IDR means you're paying $0) are overwhelmingly more important than $10K over time. The cash number isn't meaningless but it's close. The other stuff will have a vastly larger impact on most borrowers' lives.

Functionally, wiping out student debt without systemic changes that require a more cooperative senate (gently caress you again, Manchin and Sinema, and also probably SCOTUS on top of that) is an invitation for the next cohort to rack it up without any guarantee of the same bailout. IDR caps and interest coverage put a strong brake on unaffordability going forward, and it does so in a way that does not give a significant majority of the country much reason to have agita at perceptually huge "cash transfers" (that's not actually how it works but try to tell a voter that) to people whose degrees tend towards better economic outcomes in the first place (no, not everyone, but overall it's the case).
