You know, I was wondering why Denji felt so different in this chapter, despite still being just the same, and I think it's pretty simple. We aren't seeing the inner monologue. Denji isn't as simple as he acts in part 1, with a lot of (crude) consideration of morality, love, social obligations, and how he relates to the people around him. Here, we're just seeing the externals, and there were very few people who could get Denji to actually put his deeper thoughts into words, and even fewer of them are still around. (Makima was the best at it, which is one of the reasons I'm really curious how Denji and Nayuta are getting along).

Yeah, I was initially a bit off-put by how Denji seemingly backslid in maturity, but then I realized that from his perspective, Yoshida is just some rando who suddenly began to try and intrude into his life, so it makes sense he does not give a gently caress.

None of this is THAT out of character. I think the lack of internal monologue is a really good point. Denji has always been surface level shallow dude with a heart of gold. My gut feeling is an encounter like this might not be out of the norm for Denji. Public Safety, Devil Hunters whether is exists or not anymore, should still know who he is now a days. There may be several of these organizations, in various forms. And the assassins knew who he was too (which he hilariously denied). Also we still don’t know the state of his life with Nayuta. I think it's important to note that while it seems like Denji has backslid if he really wanted to the world to know he was Chainsawman, he could have just pulled the cord on camera. Denji is a simple guy but he's also more complex than he appears. If I had to bet, this whole thing is really because he can't put to words why he keeps hunting, or maybe he's hit a dead end with getting Power back and is hoping if he keeps hunting devils, he'll find a blood devil or something.
