is it weird to think goldeneye is legitimately one of the best bond films? like i'm fairly sure it's at least top 3 for me, if not the top. and that's not just because of the game or anything. like the film is just super well done and the epitomy of bond in my eyes. it really straddles the line perfectly between the super hokiness of the older bonds and the super seriousness of the newer ones.

I don't remember it well, but I remember not hating it which is pretty good for a Bond movie. Casino Royale is my gold standard, but you're probably right, it's gotta be top 3 easy, because I didn't care much for anything else Craig did.

I think it just hits a nice sweet spot. It's new enough that a lot of the weird misogyny from the older films is fading away, but it's not taking itself super serious like the modern bond films do.

Silksong will come out when it comes out. It's a small team and they probably don't want to announce a date since it'd probably get delayed.

Until then, there's plenty of other cool and good games to play!

I think that series may be diminishing returns. They’re all very similar which ends up weakening the series even though each individual game is pretty great in isolation. The Mario games having significant differences keeps everything feeling special.

I just realized that if Rare and Microsoft are willing to throw Nintendo a bone and allow Goldeneye on NSO, which has always been a huge hurdle, they just might put up Perfect Dark there, too, someday.

Perfect Dark was rumored to come already, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo threw Microsoft the bone, otherwise the gamepass version would have multiplayer too.

Golden Eye was my introduction to speedrunning, getting the clear times to earn the cheats on some of those levels was brutal. Especially that second level where you would need to shoot a door to get a soldier to open it fast enough, and reset if Dr. Doak wasn't in the right place. Also, every game should have a toggle to give every enemy a rocket launcher.

I don't necessarily think that's true; I think they (Rare and Nintendo) are being a bit sneaky touting online play, when that's an automatic/built-in feature of the platform it'll be on.

We'll be getting online multiplayer that, if done now, would be jittery and laggy, and you'd still be able to see everyone's screen.

My understanding is that the Xbox is getting the same ROM, but upscaled more, with remapped controls and super smooth framerate.

The reason they're not getting online multiplayer is because it's not intrinsically built into the platform that the game will be released on, and neither Rare nor Microsoft are bothering to retool the game to play online like the Perfect Dark re-release (which would be full screen online).

Nintendo can be all "online exclusive to the Switch", but in the same breath, one could also say "you can play Ocarina of Time online with friends*"

*the friends are merely watching, or you could give one of them control as player 1.

I have two hopes for Goldeneye on NSO, and they're sort of naive; one would be for them to allow some sort of controller remapping, specific to that game (not including the system-wide option, or the control schemes available in the game itself), and for this game showing up on the platform to REALLY push Nintendo to fix the online performance that's been plaguing all of these NSO platforms.

Is there a decent review out there of Atelier Ryza 1? Thinking about getting into the series now I've finished Xenoblade 3 and want another JRPG and it's cheap right now. All I am aware of the series is that it's traditional turn-based combat and the big gimmick is alchemy crafting your weapons/abilities and the plot is fairly low-stakes.

Ryza is not turn-based, in a departure from the rest of the series. It's not action, but it's a fast-paced ATB. It's also the Atelier with the most standard JRPG save-the-world plot, though it still spends a lot of time on relatively low-stakes issues like "not wanting to do chores" or "the rich girl's dad doesn't want her to be friends with country bumpkins". The alchemy system is a pretty decent one imo, it isn't quite as crunchy as the previous trilogy, but is fairly easy to understand and has a fairly gentle learning curve, allowing you to feel like you're using your brain at all levels of mastery
