The point on drawing is one of those things that its probably technically true but any analysis of it would reveal it as being a load of nonsense. New Japan's business bottomed out in 2008-09 which is when Tanahashi had been firmly established as the ace so if you just looked at attendance numbers and were like "xxx didn't draw!!" then you might say this. However what's pretty clear is that there was significant fan turnover in this period: and the mid-late 2000s was them shifting away from what they had done under the later Inoki years, fans that liked that moving on and then a lag before they actually created new fans in major numbers for the new New Japan. Hard to tell obviously with worked numbers but that's what the revenue numbers that are true would indicate. Its something that I think people don't consider when we're looking at drawing: while for individual shows you can say "xxx drew, xxx didn't draw" within the pattern of that period: when you are looking more broadly the business trends lag behind developments because it takes time and work to start building a hot product and do good shows before people are like 'hey this New Japan thing is great'; and it takes more than a few bad shows for them to move on. There's also a million other factors to consider in these things. In short: analysing this stuff is a lot more difficult then "number low so bad" - especially when you're looking long term and you know a period of good business follows.
