Koga was great when the story felt a bit more like early Kenichi and he was bouncing from one crazy teacher to the next all while having appropriate "exam" fights to demonstrate how much he'd learned from the previous session.

He was actually not normal. He was abnormally skinny and weak, which is what drove him to do superhuman amounts of steroids and surgeries to become HUGE

Him being abnormally skinny was at least partly a result of his extreme over-training destroying himself, so he may have just been normal before then.

Can I just say how much I like the fact the dude who's got Koga on the ropes is not any sort of genetic freak or user of esoteric bullshit special martial art, but "just" top-class heavy-weight (or medium-heavy?) BJJ specialist? And that his winning

It's going to be sad when Koga busts out something from Niko style and gets out of this.

Honestly, people with a defense emphasis are very strong in Kengan. Gensai is an impregnable fortress, saw paing has so much durability he can tank as much as he deals out, Seki has mastered attacking while defending. Even Akoya is a formidable fighter because his reflexes and shield stance allow him to counter and subdue opponents with brutal efficiency.

Julius and Waka are also insanely tanky due to muscle mass alone.

I mean we all anticipated this, because, wishful thinking aside, the point of this whole tournament is to serve as a proper stage for Koga vs. Ryuki, there is no way either of them loses before their duel. Still that was some bullshit.

I'm ashamed I forgot both because Julius arguably has the highest physical defense of the entire cast to the point the only people that are a threat to him are people with a comparable build or Wakatsuki with his blast core. Waka himself has only been defeated by Niko-style bullshit and Aiki magic. Plus whatever ankle break Agito used on him.

Well on one hand Koga vs Ryuki can be super boring. But even if they won't fight in the end it wouldn't hit the same as in Asura. Tbh I'd rather watch them fight since their relationship is a lot more engaging and realised than Ohma and Setsunas so I have some faith. Just no more stupid worm bullshit please, I'd like to see the emotional resolution without distractions

I don't know if "just anyone" can. We just recently had an example of someone using one part of the Niko style poorly, so I don't think literally anyone who learns Ironbreaker can suddenly snap bones in their hands. Ohma even comments that that's a really weird way to use that technique.

The thing they seem to be going with for Koga is that he's basically Martial Arts Megaman and can pick up and intuitively understand how to use various techniques in novel ways as long as he has someone to teach him how they work beforehand, rather than him being devoted to a specific school of martial arts like most of the other characters.

Well I think for Koga he’s been training with Ohma for like 2.5 years or something? But yeah everyone should grab the Niko style because it’s absurdly OP.

That might be extrapolated from his character bio, but they hated on him in the fight because he's what they call a "collector" and he gets close to other fighters to learn their tech. Given how he handled working under Metsuda it's obvious he would then cut and run after getting what he wanted.

If I remember right that was just sheer assumption. "Monke sucks and I bet he stole those moves somehow."

I'm not sure he's even been on page since he lost his match so we may never know if it's actually true.

He just wanted to emphasize his point because that's the kind of person he is.

As in, he's the type of person who would say something like that.
