That's why it's okay to murder cyclists and pedestrians - if they were serious about getting around, they'd be in a car.

What? When I see someone on a bike I slow down and get out of the way for them.

my neighborhood in berlin had literally no traffic controls. like, forget stop signs, there weren't even any yield signs. as a result people actually had to fuckin pay attention to what was going on

If you think drivers actually try to drive according to the rules in America you’re utterly out of your loving mind.

this also applies to cyclists and as a bonus they think because its a sidewalk it doesn't count

my point wasn't really to say that cyclists are responsible for killing as many people as drivers here, they're not. its a growing problem to the point that the nyc department of transportation started doing separate statistics from other vehicles though

This is why cars kill over 40,000 Americans every year, on an upward trajectory every year since 2011. The cyclists caused it.

the greatest trick the devil played: falsifying statistics so all bike accidents are attributed to cars

I live in a semi-rural university town so basically nobody who doesn't live right on campus has much of a choice in terms of driving

but I also don't see many bikes on the road since the university has all its own separate bike lanes, mostly filled with students micro-mobiling themselves to the hospital on bird scooters and as far as I know mostly unregulated electric skateboards that can do like 40+mph instead of bicycles

in honolulu they built a protected bike lane on a very busy street with 5 lanes for cars, two of them for parking (except during rush hour) much to the chagrin of a bunch of car brained lunatics who demanded that all six lanes needed to be for cars only. the main issue is that there are tons of driveways, and the one lane of parking blocks good visibility of the protected bike lane from the cars tuning into the driveways, and so cyclists keep getting clobbered by cars. like this:

code:
S | < | - | - | | |
T | B | P | | | C | C |
O | I | A | C | A | A |
R | K | R | A | R | R |

they're staggered here to prevent this kind of thing in a lot of places and it seems to work ok. some major roads are set up this way because there wasn't really a better way to redo it i guess (they redid a bunch during the lockdowns). a lot of smaller neighborhoods don't have them at all though
