I think that's a trap choice - you doing marginally more damage to monstrosities with your gun isn't a good thing when everyone in the team is burning them down, and they are a kiting problem rather than a damage problem. Conversely, being able to hit F and then systematically clear the entire area of specialists and shooters while standing still with your ult active is the Veteran leaning hard into their niche and leaving the ogryn enemies to the other squad members who can focus on it without worrying about being shot at.

Agreed, it grew on me. You have to manage your reloading smartly but if you do it's a very satisfying gun with a lot of punch. I probably prefer it over the bolter :3:

I prefer the reload one to that because usually my problem is running out of ammo midway through clearing a room, rather than not being able to see them.

I feel like a voidstrike penetrates through loving everything when fully or mostly charged, and wrt what you were saying about plasma gun's reload+heating, voidstrike has no reloading and managing the peril is very very easy especially with "remove peril on headshot" blessing

Does the reload one constantly reload your gun every time you refresh it, or just when you activate the ability?

Edit: I just realized I could just go test this in the Meat Grinder.

Edit 2: It does not. That sucks a lot, honestly - it'd easily be my favorite of the three if it did.

It's honestly really useful. You ever have to stop shooting and deal with a unit that's gotten past your friends, but now you've not been able to reload and you have a sniper/trapper/mutant running at you? Works for that.

Also if you have the bolter you can skip the cocking animation by pulling the gun out and immediately activating it, granted I have a machinegun lasgun right now that I like better.

After messing around with the two of them, while the Power Sword is definitely the overall stronger option(since near infinite cleave combined with really high power is a ridiculous combination), the Chain Sword has some advantages due to not being as reliant on it's charge mechanic as the former, since you'll only really be needing it for singular high health/armor targets(though it's surprisingly bad against the naked Ragers as those guys don't seem to get stunned at all by the charge attack unlike most things besides Monstrosities), which simplifies the timing and rhythm compared to the Power Sword by a lot

The Chain Axe has some potential for being ridiculous too but due to being almost completely focused on single target damage it really requires having a gun that can handle Horde clearing like an Accatran or maybe the Flamer

Was using sustained fire a lot recently, the reload can be nice even when not using a 2 year to reload gun, the real power comes from having a on-demand 60% toughness heal when you have 300 toughness

Counterfire is just great now that it refreshes on (most) gunner kills though, but if you get into a situation where all the gunners are blowing through your shield anytime you pop your head out the heal is nice.

Got another good Atrax axe on my Veteran this time, and yeah, even against a chainsword with +cleave and +damage on multihit blessings (fantastic if not absolutely BiS rolls), it's amazingly competitive. That axe is something special and I hope the number-crunchers figure out why it's surprisingly good on mobs while still being able to do what an axe does (kill the gently caress out of elites and armor).

TBH, a good team on diff >= 3 generally has no issue dealing with trash mobs; it's heavy and/or mixed mobs that trip you up, and in that role the Atrax honestly does feel so much better than the chainsword because you don't have the deal with a revved attack getting caught on some stray dumbfuck diving in front of a Mauler or whatever. I'll still keep this chainsword though, it's been good to me.

(Pointedly not discussing the power sword. poo poo's clearly OP)

I think that maybe weapons have different degrees with which they can penetrate through stuff, because the Bolter can do that too if the wall is thin enough. (e.g. a lot of the cover types that enemies like to hide behind, like on rafters)

I've been bringing the Revolver on my Zealot for a change and it's honestly not too bad if you use it sparingly. But then I've also noticed that it seems to have some rather harsh damage dropoff on it for some Emperor-forsaken reason, which might be the reason why it's so inconsistent.

I got a revolver early on that had +20% damage on flak and carapace and would probably be one of my main weapons if not for the fact its item power is quite low. Ammo limits are mitigated by the Veteran's extra ammo and ammo regen on Elite kill feats.

Plus the fact you can shoot through 3-4 enemies at once with it, and what it doesn't kill outright tends to get knocked down

If it reloaded faster I'd even consider the Stub Revolver the go-to for the "Every shot Counts" pennence (which is still total bullshit).

I've never had issues with dropoff or firepower on the pistol though I've rarely looked for issues with the dropoff. The stagger on it is amazing and can stop a flamer shooting halfway across the map, or a gunner, and it can do countersniping in a pinch. I don't think I'd use it on a vet but as ranged option on a zealot where I'm mostly using melee it is quite nice.

I made a series of bad investments. Tarantula farm. The bottom fell out of the market.

I know people have talked about shots connecting and just not dealing damage or stagger, what about Ogryn grenades? There was a lot happening and I wasn't recording but it looked like my box clipped right through an Ogryn enemy, no damage or stagger, no grenade box explosion. It takes so long to take out the box that most poo poo dies before I can toss one on Malice, then it doesn't even hit. I guess a smaller enemy's hit box might have clipped through the ogryn and the guy died inside the ogryn model?

one thing thats interesting is you can actually see different marks of existing weapons (like the thunder hammer) in the preview for the weapon cosmetics store. the thunder hammer, revolver, chainsword all seem to be pretty different. the thunder hammer is a plainer model, the chainsword is more squared off and has a different guard, and the revolver has a muzzle brake.

edit: the flamer in the preview is also different, its longer and has a heat shield

It's quite noticeable on harder difficulties where far away enemies suddenly need 2 or more extra shots to kill, which is quite harsh considering you only get a maximum of 5 ever. You're right that it knocks them on their asses quite well though, but against bombers and snipers (if you didn't get the headshot) that can actually be bad if you're trying to kill them ASAP.

Edit: Although from testing in the psykhanium just now, it's mostly just Gunners, Trappers and Flamers were it gets really bad, which isn't as big a deal since they're close ranged specials anyway. (well, except for Gunners which does leave a bit of a weak spot for Zealots) Also the Revolver apparently has a really high innate crit rate? Or maybe "+melee critical hit rate" also affects ranged attacks which lol I'll take it

Edit 2: Figured it out, it's specifically the Maniac armor type and high health Unarmoured enemies which the Revolver doesn't do well against. In fact, against Dreg Gunners you're better off hitting them in their flak armour instead of their unarmoured bits

1. Use every bullet in your gun but the last one. (Doesn't matter if you hit with these.)
2. Alt+F4
3. Rejoin and use your last bullet (and hit, obviously).
4. Do not use the gun for the rest of the mission. Ammo gained from your Veteran passive will not ruin your penance.

Also, you can gain this penance while playing as any class (or so I've heard).

I dunno, it's not actually that hard to push-strike then backdash to give yourself enough room for a quick charge up. You can still keep hordes off you just fine without charging if necessary, and then when you get a second to hit the charge just sweep em all into the bin. The chainsword is fine but if I wanted a chainsword I'd switch to zealot and play with the eviscerator which is just incredibly better.

e: I still think eviscerator and thunder hammer needs a buff and power sword needs a nerf, the veteran should not be better at melee than the zealot lol

I've been trying the plasmagun a lot on Heresy to try and "organically" get the 100% accuracy 0 ammo achievement (trying to maintain accuracy while actually being useful and if I think I have it I'll mag dump the rest at the horde at the end is the plan) and I gotta say it sucks rear end IMO - I run it with the Ogryn damage buff and even charging it and lining up headshots it like 3 taps reapers? so i can kill 1 reaper!?!?!? Then I have to be useless while it vents. It just feels soooo bad compared to the bolter and lasgun. To be fair though, my plasma gun roll is not great and I don't have a better one.

They really need to do something about the ammo or the heat. If you're being gate kept by the heat anyways, you should not have to reload. All your ammo should be in the tank and reloading should only be for 100% purging heat safely.

I'm pretty sure they patched the other class one, as I think you could get it very easily by bringing a flamer as a zealot.
