I could not possibly care less about finances when I’m buying Lego toys as a hobby. If I did, I wouldn’t be buying Lego in the first place.

If we wanted to talk about hobbies, we'd be posting in the hobbies subforum.

Yeah, careful posting on the wrong side of the railroad tracks, it's pretty scary in other subforums. Don't worry, though, it's chill around here; we are all friendly happy posters who like to kick back and relax, chit chat about the latest I bond rates, you know.

What is y'alls favorite 3 in 1 sets? I got my husband the octopus/manta ray one for Christmas this year and my kiddo got the adorable sea turtle and dolphin one. Going for the marine animal theme since that's what she's studying in school.

I think they're trying to have some fun and introduce goons to other places on this comedy website, but apparently hobbies are serious business. More so than actual business. Which is what we post about here in the business forum.

I think it’s partly because it’s the second time in recent memory this thread has been moved to a completely different forum, and last time it really hosed with the thread’s discussions and vibe. Some people do legitimately come from places other than the Control Panel.

I strongly suggest folks read the bfc feedback thread linked in the post where I quoted Baddog. It is the origin of this lighthearted attempt at humor on a comedy forum. It is 100% of the story.

Enjoy your stay in BFC, it will be coming to a close at some point in the next 1-365 hours.

Eh, enough of you aren't having fun with this that I'll see if I can figure out the buttons to send you back from my phone (new mod here).

Don't want you to feel like your thread was singled out intentionally. I'd actually been thinking about how many Legos we have in the house (and how much they cost) when the comment was made that the bfc house thread should go to DiY. So when I saw diy had an active Lego thread, it just kinda connected in my head and I made the joke.

Cross pollination shouldn't be such a terrible thing? I know I've eyeballed a few other interesting diy threads because of this.

I do appreciate the suggestions for some Lego furniture! I'd like to get that upcoming CNY set, but I gotta get the storage space sorted out first.

Edit, ok, got it done I think. Take care Lego bros. It is the best toy (and moneysink) ever. I do kinda wish they would stop putting a unique piece into almost every set lately though, seemingly to stop folks with large collections from just downloading the instructions?

People probably wouldn't care if the joke was actually funny.

Well anyway, arbitrary moronic attempts at thread murder aside, I finally got around to finishing the used 10134 UCS Y-Wing that I got a while back. There are definitely some missing parts, but they're mainly in the display base. I knew the plaque & astromech were missing, but I only cared about the ship. And :drat: what a sick set. It looks way better in person than in any of the photos that I've seen. Old building instructions/techniques are so funny in 2023, the large engines are only connected to the body with technic pins and one single 2x2 tile (subbed for a plate) on top. But it looks great and that's all that matters for a display piece.

1x1 round bricks. It doesn't have a huge range because it releases them at the very top of the arc but it works.

I bought myself one of those penguin sets that Target had half price last month, and built it and put it out as a Christmas decoration. The vast majority of my Christmas decorations are penguins. I have so many penguin dolls and stick them everywhere.

Come Christmas, my parents come over, and my mom gives me the exact same set as a gift lol

I have a gripe about these. Everything but the primary build tends to leave a lot more in leftover pieces, and as a result the alternate builds are smaller/less detailed than the primary one. It feels more like "1 + 2ish in 1" than "3 in 1".

Are there any where the nicer model to display is the b or c model in the set?

I like the townhouse petshop/café. The tall bank alt build goes really well with the larger more expensive houses.

Was over at my parent's house last night. My mom had mentioned a couple of times already that they still had my Lego train from when I was a kid.
My son, now 5, was very interested and tbh I wanted to see it in action again too.
So, we dig through some closets and we find the box:

Awesome, let's open it up and put everything together!

Oh....

Turns out most of the parts got mixed with my other Lego.

So I took everything home and dumped it on the floor. Now I get to sift through this pile to find all the pieces for the train. It's gonna be :krad: when I get it back together though.

The electronics look fine, except the wire for the light is busted. It's like 6€ to replace it, so once everything is back together I'll probably just buy it so my train has a working light too.

It's also pretty cool how many memories come back when sifting through a pile of Lego. Like: "oh this piece, I remember that, it's from set X".

Yup, I also found the 1996 catalogue. I remember spending hours staring at all the various sets and elaborate backgrounds and stuff they had going on.

By the way, I feel like the instructions for those older sets are way less detailed than the newer sets. Still fairly obvious what's supposed to go where, but nowadays they really explain everything in great detail.
