my distaste for the idea scales with how large your home town is tbh. like my home town is less than 5000 people so im related to basically everyone by marriage. but if someone was from like, a real city and still somehow marrying a relative it would be an overpowering amount of yeehaw bullshit

does not clicking/tapping on the image expand it? anyways, my point is that currently the kanokari fanbase (on reddit at least) have taken the effort to whine or make fun of the series in comments rather than halfheartedly giving an upvote compared to anything else that's been getting chapters lately. see also the twitter ratio in general where particularly unpopular threads have more comments than retweets or likes

So Shueisha has been running a Manga Creator program where anyone can publish their own manga directly (subject to their discretion), and each month they pick 3 submissions to feature on their Shonen Jump site Manga Plus, paying the creators a minimum of 100,000 yen. I think Death March is the one where the guy finds some slaves in a dungeon, their owner just died in there, so he takes them as his own. Freeing them is never even considered, not even a handwave "they'd be tracked down as escapees" or something.

Akimatsu famously did FFVII stuff before Love Hina, and the animation director for GaoGaiGar Final did a whole bunch of fetish stuff.

The big thing is that Japan's humongous independent comic scene and independent comic-to-professional pipeline makes this very visible. You can bet most western artists draw all the same stuff, but if it's distributed at all it's through a pseudonym on tumblr or whatever site is popular now.

I hate shield hero so much. The main character buys a slave, forces her to fight terrifying monsters, and tortures her when she too paralyzed with fear to fight. Oh, and he buys her a happy meal one time. Now if it was me, and someone enslaved, tortured me, etc, I would really hate them. Also, I’d probably have lifelong ptsd. And, you know, even if they bought me a happy meal once, I think I’d still hate their guts. But slave girl loves the main character, in fact, that’s her entire personality. I can’t believe people liked this garbage so much they made an anime out of it. Yes, I know, source your quotes, or whatever. May I take a moment to bring up something, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone mention how horrifying a person Naofumi really is. Most people, if you told them that torturing a child was the only way to save the world, would be extremely reluctant. They would try to find any other way. Not Naofumi! He doesn’t even blink.
