I think there's a large amount of eyes internally at Disney watching how Quantumania performs. I think if the Marvel cash cow starts to trend downwards then they'll really be doing some damage control (which would likely come with price hikes in the parks division)

So that would just be faster price hikes? They are basically raising prices on tickets multiple times a year these days

Yep. Their most recent hike was two months ago.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $124-$179

There's a couple of interesting actors in that movie. The guy you're referring to is Ray 'The Rocket' Valliere and he apparently passed in April 2020. That speech was unprompted. Another is Rene Kirby and he has Spinal Bifida and his story is very unique. His parents just didn't give a poo poo about his condition in their treatment of him, made as few accommodations as possible for him, and made him learn to work around it and now he has the upper body of the Hulk and doesn't really use a wheelchair. The Farrellys saw him living his life and said "that guy is awesome, we're putting him in the movies" and they did. Nobody every comments on his condition, which I like.

Anyway I hope the basketball movie is good.

Oh yeah, Rene Kirby's in Shallow Hal too as a big lady's man, he's great.

It's actually one of the things I really liked about the movie because I checked out of the Shrek series after the third one and never saw the first Puss in Boots movie. I recommend this one wholeheartedly and would watch it again in a second. I can't remember the last time I said that about a Dreamworks movie.

The Backrooms whole deal isn't hard to understand, it's about the uncanny creepiness of getting lost in an empty office building, combined with some of the original use of AI generated art. It's literally the same kinda deal as Slenderman where idea jams on message boards end up with people taking it in a lot of directions, with a lot of it being vague enough to potentially be compatible.

There's also supposed to be a bit of a vibe of stumbling into the edges of reality, hence the 'backrooms', like clipping out of the geometry in a video game. A lot of the stuff follows that vibe, with weird and abstract monsters that look like glitches. It's definitely a different mindset from authors who didn't grow up with video games.

Yeah, if anything the weirdness of the Overlook is almost a sideshow to the themes of isolation, boredom and going stir-crazy, with the implication the supernatural elements are just pushing along the inevitable and enjoying the show. Pretty common Stephen King theme.

It's sort of funny to me that two of the most popular modern horror ideas are "guy in a suit" and "an office"

Someone should make a Human Interest interview, where we see how the Slender Man lives long after his heyday. How he was overexposed and his name was dragged down by various controversies. Now we see him on the couch in the background of a shot, with an obvious gut and only using his long arms to fetch another beer.

HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
Oh is it that time of decade again?

quote:

Warren Beatty’s Got a New Dick Tracy Special Coming Out Tonight

Criminals, beware! After a mere, uh, 33 years, fearless crimefighter Dick Tracy is back on the scene, ready to stop all evildoers with a facial disfigurement and accompanying nickname. That’s because actor Warren Beatty, who played Tracy in the 1990 movie based on the comic strip of the same name, will re-don the yellow fedora for a new special that airs tonight on TCM. Yes, tonight.

This, it should be noted, it not a special where Dick Tracy solves a crime, however,. This is an interview with Tracy the character, as played by Beatty, by film critics/experts Leonard Maltin and Ben Mankiewicz that will run tonight on the TCM channel. That’s bizarre, but what’s even more bizarre is that this isn’t the first special like this. In 2009, Beatty also got interviewed as Tracy—also by Maltin, also on TCM!— for an equally unheralded special that aired once and only once. What’s the difference between the two? Well, the 2008 one was titled Dick Tracy Special; this one is titled Dick Tracy Special: Tracy Zooms In. I’ll let you detectives try to figure out that mystery.

A better mystery is, why do either of these specials exist? Gamespot, which reported the news, suggests they’re so Beatty can hold onto the film rights to the character (if he didn’t make something about Dick Tracy periodically, he’d forfeit them). That tracks, except that Warren Beatty is currently 85 years old—perhaps not the incarnation of the character people would want to see, assuming they want to see a Dick Tracy movie at all, which they almost certainly don’t. Those few that do, however, should head over to TCM at 10:30 p.m. ET, when Tracy Zooms In.
