I don't think there was ever anything remotely suggesting this. For one thing, even in One Piece, that's not how hypnotism works. Jango's hypnotism can control people in the short term and erase memories, but it can't just permanently change someone's personality. For another, there's no reason Kuro and Jango would want to change Morgan's personality; they just wanted him to believe that he'd captured the real Kuro.

Zorchin' some Flemoids

I watched STRONG WORLD for the first time tonight. I don't think Shiki got quite enough characterization as a pirate from his era. It's strange to complain that a movie almost focuses too much on the Straw Hat crew (maybe because rescuing Nami felt a little bit like retreading ground?) but other than that the movie was really good, with at least a couple literal "laugh out loud moments" (one focused on brook, and one centered on "Billy", the 'we need to add a cute animal-ish little guy.) e: Oh, and there were a few too-fanservice-y Nami camera shots, but nothing TOO too bad. This is a pre-timeskip movie, after all.

Anyways, I enjoyed it, and it was on US Netflix, so if you have that and haven't seen it yet, I recommend it!

STRONG WORLD is fun/would recommend, but it's a movie that requires homework (read the Chapter 0 special or watch Shiki's anime episodes).

Without it (spoilers I guess), you miss that Shiki's motiviation for destroying the East Blue is because it was Rodger's home sea, and he really wants Nami on his crew because he got hosed over by a storm against Rodger/keeps getting hosed over by storms.

It's a good Franky and Brook movie which is also great :yohoho:

Those goals seem somewhat in tension with each other. Did he really think Nami would be willing to work with him after he destroyed East Blue?

Shiki kidnapped and blackmailed Nami saying he wouldn't destroy her home island if she remained his navigator, which he probably thought was enough to keep her in line (it was not :v:)

Zorchin' some Flemoids

I watched Film: Z and Film: Gold over the past couple of days.

I don't have much to say about Film: Z. The main villain was interesting, and I liked how Aokiji and Borsalino were incorporated into the plot. I did not like the Nami stuff, it felt especially egregious in this movie. I also didn't really care for Z's "wings", in the deaging lady and creepy plant dance ninja, but they were "alright" I guess.

Film: Gold, however... WOW! What an excellent One Piece film! A good villain (with a bit of a rushed backstory) and lots of stuff for the whole cast to do! The fights were interesting, the cameos were fun, and all this in a HEIST movie? It's tied for my favorite One Piece film now for sure.

That being said, I've now watched all of the Oda-written movies, plus Baron Omatsuri. I'll probably take a break from watching them for a bit, so here are my rankings:

1. Film: Gold/Baron Omatsuri
2. Film: Red
3. Strong World
4. Film: Z
5. Stampede

Been a while since I watched the other One Piece Films but I'd say my personal ranking is...

1. Film Red
2. Dead End Adventure
3/4. Film Gold/Strong World (sorta tied)
5. Film Z
6. Film Stampede

I will say that I'm not a fan of boss fights in One Piece movies whose power is "I create a giant robot" and it sucks that they did it fuckin' twice with Gild and Bullet.

At least Moria turned into a Giant Moria and piloted a giant zombie Oars.

Film Gold is the one I sorta with had been made later because a) it came out before we learned so much about Roger and Whitebeard and Rocks and whatnot, and b) Shiki is probably the biggest victim of powercreep in the series and unlike Crocodile he doesn't get to come back with buffed stats.

Stampede is the worst of the recent Oda-written movies, but I'll be honest it's the one I'm most happy to go back to.

Sometimes you just want big dumb punch people :arghfist:

That said, I kind of love Douglas as the biggest dumbest punch man, but Buena Festa freaking suuucks. He could be cut out of the movie entirely with some tweaking.

I don't think Oda has written any of the movies or games so much as he has said stuff like "wouldnt it be cool if there was an admiral who became a pirate", etc.

I do wish he's saved his "what if there was a dracula dracula no mi" idea for the canon materials though

he didnt directly write dialog but he wrote the story outlines for strong world, film gold, film z, and film red

for film red he also went over the script line by line and made changes/additions

No matter how one loves, there are always different aims. Love can take a great many forms, whatever the era.
Stampede's story is lazy at best but it gets extra points from me for showing us Boa Hancock running at mach 2 and kicking the giant robot over.

Not Stampede? That explains a lot. For some reason I thought he was involved with everything starting with Strong World.

Stampede had some fun action, but an astoundingly weak plot. The rest of them have pretty solid premises. Even if I couldn't really tell you what happens in Film Z a few years after having seen it. I at least still remember the premise and villain off the top of my head, which is more than I can say for Stampede.

Silver2195

Stampede's plot is "Mary Sue bad guy fights everybody." It's a Dragon Ball movie plot.

I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna!!!

Oda was the co-writer of Strong World and has at least overseen every movie under the One Piece Film label since, at the very least acting as executive producer. He storyboarded part of the climax fight for Gold and served as a general producer and story supervisor for Red.

E: Then there's the half hour CGI thing that aired in a double bill with a similar Toriko thing that somehow counts as the 11th movie lol

Having seen zero One Piece movies, but lurking these threads since '06 or so, the general vibe I got was that Gold, Stampede, and Strong World are all the same film. Just this nightare mishmash. of whatever.

I don't even know when Film Z was released. Or what it was about, at the time.

...There was a Goku fight at the start with Kizaru?

I know goons love the arrow guy one, though.

My vague memories of the movies years after seeing them:

Strong World had a really unique and well defined feel to it at the time. Interesting villain and nice action that gave everyone in the crew something meaningful feeling to do. If it was kind of a big mess, it was a well executed, fun big mess.

Gold had an interesting backdrop, and some very fun set pieces. Fun villain. Ended up being a pretty satisfying big mess.

Film Z had an interesting angle with the various Navy folks having personal stakes in the ensuing mishmash, but I don't remember much else.

Stampede is the odd one out for just... being a mess from the start, with no interesting ideas or settings to latch on to. But it does have some cool side characters like Boa and Sabo doing really cool attacks, so there's that. (Yes, Sabo is a cool side character, haters be damned.) It was still a lot more satisfying than any of the pre Strong World (non-Baron Omatsuri) movies which were just as aimless but also lacked cool cameos.

I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna I don't wanna!!!

Stampede has a similar "Most of the movie is a fight against one big guy" structure as the contemporary Broly movie, but it was better in Broly because it just focused on Goku and Vegeta but it's a One Piece Film so it has to have just slightly too many cameos.

Yeah the weakness of Stampede is that it just had too many characters because it's one of those Super Smash Bros. style "EVERYONE'S HERE" kinda movie but all the cameos do is futilely throw a punch at the bad guy and then get knocked out in a single hit so a smaller but still really big cast of all the popular characters can wail on the villain with one special attack each.

I feel like Red did the cameo thing better, cause yeah people complain about Kalifah doing jack poo poo but at least Blueno and Coby and Barty and Law all have decent relevance and even Oven and Brulee play a decent part.
