Welp, there you have it. My guess would be that the EU(parliament and some governments even) will follow suit soon and then the pants shitter is gonna be a government certified genocider™, which will have some pretty interesting consequences. Denying a genocide in a public setting is a criminal offence in Germany.

You can be absolutely dogshit at what you do, and the worst you can expect is to be fired. But if you are in a position of power you say one word against your dear leader, you fall out of a window.

IIRC there used to be a saying in USSR that went something like "At worst they give you a brigade in Kamchatka", meaning that even if you royally gently caress up you'll get reassigned to poo poo job but that's pretty much it if you were party loyalist.

So the "Loyalty trumps competence" isn't even a new thing.

Terrorist Girkin started lamenting again about how Mighty Russia is no good on the battlefield, says Prigozhin is an idiot who can only spend lives for marginal daily gains, and keeps begging for ammo that they don't have. He makes reference to how Zhukov attained victories at any cost, while Rokossovsky, who was better, at least tried to save his men's lives and his allotted equipment.

quote:

Strelkov Igor Ivanovich #KRP
In connection with yesterday's yet another "lament of Yaroslavna" over the shortage of shells, I would like to ask Mr. Prigogine why, under such circumstances, meat assaults in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) are needed at all. After all, even Prigozhin himself admits that they have no strategic significance and will not lead to a turning point in hostilities. Why, in the absence of artillery support, fill the enemy with the corpses of Wagner fighters? Prigozhin justifies this by the need to grind the manpower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But after all, judging by his own statements, the reverse process is also taking place - the grinding of Wagner's manpower. And it is not known in whose favor the final tragic score of this grinding will be? In my naivety, I have always assumed that one of the indicators of effective warfare is the ratio of enemy losses to our own. And if there is superiority over the enemy, primarily in the means of fire destruction, then we advance. If this superiority does not exist, we defend ourselves.
But a bad impression is created that in Artemovsk, on the blood of PMC fighters, a PR campaign is being carried out in favor of Mr. Prigozhin, that it is the Wagner PMC that is the only formation of our group capable of fighting effectively. And the rest of our army is not capable of anything, and all command must be immediately sent to the court of a military tribunal. I do not deny serious problems with the combat effectiveness of our grouping and the competence of its command. But something tells me that it's not that simple. And the tragic experience of the Great Patriotic War comes to mind, when, for the sake of a worthy meeting of this or that public holiday and the desire to show themselves as great commanders, some military leaders filled up well-fortified German positions with corpses. And it was not without reason that the front-line soldiers spoke of two methods of war - the method of Marshal Zhukov and the method of Marshal Rokossovsky. The first one achieved victories at any cost, and the second one also won, but at the same time tried to save the lives of its soldiers. Maybe it's time to abandon the cannibalistic principle "Women give birth to new soldiers" and stop conducting "meat assaults" in Artemovsk without artillery support. Especially just for publicity.

At the time, Russia was crowing about how Europe would freeze in the upcoming winter and lose their resolve. I no longer have the link to hand but I believe someone replied to me in here or in one of the previous threads pointing out some contract chicanery as well - e.g. Russia voluntarily shutting off deliveries put them in breach whereas a tragic accident oh no the pipeline blew up for no reason at all [smirk] notionally got them out of said penalties.

Also consider that by the time the pipelines exploded Germany was going pedal to the floor on divestment, reducing demand, replacing natural gas demand with renewables, finding other sources. It's probably fair to say it was no longer the moneymaker pipe it had been.
