Zorchin' some Flemoids

When is Oda going to give us some economic perspective for the world of One Piece?

How are we supposed to compare old characters' bounties to new characters' bounties if we have no idea where the unemployment levels, consumer spending, interest rates, etc. stand?

Is Water 7 a communist city, where the state controls the main mode of production and the workers get their due shares, or is it a ultra capitalist one where the CEO of the biggest company controls all the political power?

I think most replies were in good faith actually.

edit: I think in this kind of fantasy story you kind of have to accept the Good King as a symbol for a fair government that reflects the people. It's only really jarring because One Piece is so contemptuous for the World Nobles, but if you see things for what they represent it's not as contradictory as it seems at first.

It's a corporate town made by multiple separate small businesses wanting a palce for all their workers to live without long (ocean) commutes. This is why the train is so important, it's the equivalent of modern FIFO systems, and is what allows Water 7 to primarily be full of either Shipwright businesses, or the required secondary businesses to support such a large population of shipwrights.

The Revolutionaries have to be okay with "good" kings if Oda wants to have the Celestial Dragons overthrown in part by the efforts of all the people we've seen. It would be pretty messed up if Luffy's friends had to fight to defend the Celestial Dragons in order to defend their positions. Neptune, Riku, Momonosuke, Vivi- even Dalton is a king, even if he was elected. If the revolutionaries were explicitly "you next" to all these people they'd be pretty reluctant to rise up and support the Revolutionary Army when the time came, and however interesting that'd be intellectually and politically, it would feel bad emotionally, which is more important to this story.

From another perspective, Dragon seems to want to tear down the Celestial Dragons specifically. A group entirely focused on that goal is not going to want to alienate sympathetic monarchs who might also want to tear down that particular system. Whether Ivankov is hereditary nobility or not, Kuma definitely was. I kind of like the idea that the Revolutionary Army was founded by people with one particular goal, and more and more radicals joined as time went on pushing the organization to be more extreme. I think that's an explicit part of the story at this point, at least with people praising Sabo for killing Cobra.

imo it's just really amusing that the guy Dragon is propping up as an example of a good king saw his country fall into civil war because he couldn't figure out that the culprit was the superrich pirate who runs a lavish casino in one of the only cities that didn't get wrecked by drought.

Wasn't that basically a "young Gannondorf in OoT" situation where the guy had an unassailable public image and everyone except the SH's thought he was a rogueish hero type? I think a bunch of people even refer to him with knightly honorifics at the time.

Crocodile was a Warlord and therefore was essentially untouchable so long as he did nothing outright illegal against Cobra, in fact most of what Croco-boy was doing publicly in Alabasta was being a folk hero who saved towns from bandits.

Also the WG implicitly doesn't like the Nefertari family all too much considering the whole "could be Proper Celestial Dragons but live among the poors like losers" thing.

I thought the idea was that Cobra more or less knows Crocodile is full of poo poo, but cannot prove it. Hence Vivi infiltrating Baroque Works to find said confirmation/proof.

Shocked I tell you
Sabo stated back during Reverie before Wano started that they don't even really have a issue with how the World Goverment works as a system, they hate the Celestial Dragons and their tithes.

Like it seems their ideal would be for the World Government to just be governed by the rulers of it's various member states, with no force above them, along with the price of membership being reduced.

I always felt it was this, Cobra knew something was up but had no ability to move against Crocodile due to

1. Warlord
2. Croco-boy could wrap up the entire Alabasta Military if he really felt like it.
3. Not enough evidence to get the Navy involved.
