I was just going to say that lol At this point whatever the cover ends up being is going to be a disappointment--not that it's bad but every one is so used to this horn cover that the official one just isn't going to look right, no matter how good it is. I feel like they should just track down the artist and buy it off of them, or something.

I don't know, I kind of suspect that if whenever Winds comes out they're going to use that as an opportunity to go with a new design scheme so that they can re-release books1-5 with brand new covers and it will drive people nuts because that covers have to match on their bookshelves (if they care about that sort of thing)

It's been so long now that Bantam's probably due to release a brand new set of cover art designs at some point anyway so that people will loving never have a complete consistent set of books if Winds ever gets released somehow.

I doubt we would have gotten TWOIAF and Fire and Blood if not for his publishers.

Or Dance, actually, since they were the ones who convinced him to stop and move the material he had to Winds.

Wasn't the one before Dance already something his publisher pressured him to get out, he saw it as one book with Dance and wanted to edit it more.

So either that one would already not have ever come out, or that's where he had to publish half baked chapters that he can't undo now. Either way, not a good sign.

Thats the opposite of "making progress" though

edit: actually, I would bet that every day he works on that book, it gets less done

forcing Gurm to publish the unfinished third of a book that is adwd was a genius business decision worth many millions of dollars, I really get gurm's laziness but had he published anything, really anything, during the 8 years the show was on the air he would have made so much money, gotta love the man's lack of dedication.

These books were originally only supposed to be a trilogy, after all

I seem to remember an article from...god, it's was pre-2015, at least, with his editor and she was strongly suggesting turning it in to eight books.

I still kind of suspect we might get eight books if they ever come out

It's a contagious curse.

Bakker's 'Prince of Nothing' series was also meant to be short, but it only got buzz after book 2, and hey, why surf that wave for only 1 book more? Let's cook up some extra plot to -really- let the readers down 4 books ahead!

It was less "convinced him" and more that Bantam panicked and forced him to give them the manuscript and cut it off at what they felt was an appropriate end point because the show was months away from premiering at that point and they wanted to get something, anything out there to capitalize on what was probably gonna be the smash hit energy of the show. Then the show kept going and the books did not.
