The one thing I disagree with here is that the Democrats would do better with any other nominee. Despite low approval, I'm pretty sure Biden would still do better than any other possible Democratic nominee. The main reason for this is that, more than approval, I think the biggest factor is "how much the politician is hated by 'independents' and Republicans" (since partisan Democrats are voting for him regardless and - just like their Republican counterparts - are mostly motivated by antipathy towards the other party). And Biden simply isn't someone who inspires much hate - he mostly just inspires ambivalence. It's why they have to focus so much on Hunter. But if you got someone like Kamala or something, it'd be very easy to spin up the right-wing rage machine against her (for a variety of reasons). edit: I think Democrats are likely to win the presidential election simply because either 1. (if Trump runs) Trump inspires more hate in Democrats than Biden inspires in Republicans, or 2. (if Trump doesn't run) the Republicans have literally no one else who is remotely popular.

i don't know if the polls really reflect it but biden being the incumbent probably matters more than anything else. pretty funny that democrats downticket would get dragged down by him rather than the other way around which is usually how it works i think.

They tried out a few of their clones in the primary and they never got anywhere. Nostalgia for the Obama era is still all that they have, so doing Weekend at Bernie's with Biden for another four years is probably their best bet. some good Ghost Stories discourse going on in another threadquote:I listened to the these for a while until I listened to the first episodes. Where they peddled conspiracy theories (literally satanist sex scandal stuff). quote:I seem to remember insinuations that the state press was send in to destroy a witness by a political cabal. Even though it became very clear that this witness was not reliable and over time went on to make some very wild satanist child sacrifice claims. It was a sensitive issue, because she did have a past of abuse. But to insinuate that THE STATE MEDIA will just do whatever the people in power on the other end of the line tell them no questions asked was a bit much. I vaguely remember some other stuff from that episode but it’s been too long ago. Anyway I won’t bring it up anymore.

BornAPoorBlkChild posted:its so cool matt from chapo and croup coughfield have almost the exact opinions now it seems I just wanna say as someone who has been embarrassingly mad at chapo before, ultimately you just have to accept that no inspiration is or call to act is ever coming from them. Like there's this honestly kinda ridiculous desire I've felt for them to do something, say something, make use of the huge audience they have in some way because of the bernie campaign. I put my life into that thing, thinking I didn't have illusions about it because I recognized it as reformist or w/e as a baby marxist, but I still got swept up in the hype: seeing them rally their goony rear end supporters to door knock and fundraise, hearing the latest updates of everyone's efforts, even the doughy dry boys, was amazing! But they just don't matter anymore, they dabbled with being something other than a comedy podcast and put it to bed. Their opinions don't matter, the moment (if that even really describes it) has passed. I agree that they've got a certain defeatism to them - who cares? At this point if they aren't funny I just ditch out of the ep. You gotta find the real road to change: posting Which speaking of the latest one is incredible. I've never listened to a Chapo or cumtown but aren't they just basic Bernie socdems? Like not even revisionist Marxists like Hasanabi but straight up ineffectual socdems? That's what I've always heard at least. It seems weird to be disappointed in them not being politically effective if that's the case.
