Retail workers should be equipped with spears, so they can spear fleeing shoplifters.

Or, better yet - the store should install a trap hole filled with spikes at the entrance, and the employees can make it open, dropping any unsuspecting law-breakers into it.

edit: In the year 2040, retail stores can legally impale shoplifters on stakes in front of their store, as a warning to any would-be ne'er-do-wells.

The one thing I disagree with here is that the Democrats would do better with any other nominee. Despite low approval, I'm pretty sure Biden would still do better than any other possible Democratic nominee.

The main reason for this is that, more than approval, I think the biggest factor is "how much the politician is hated by 'independents' and Republicans" (since partisan Democrats are voting for him regardless and - just like their Republican counterparts - are mostly motivated by antipathy towards the other party). And Biden simply isn't someone who inspires much hate - he mostly just inspires ambivalence. It's why they have to focus so much on Hunter. But if you got someone like Kamala or something, it'd be very easy to spin up the right-wing rage machine against her (for a variety of reasons).

edit: I think Democrats are likely to win the presidential election simply because either 1. (if Trump runs) Trump inspires more hate in Democrats than Biden inspires in Republicans, or 2. (if Trump doesn't run) the Republicans have literally no one else who is remotely popular.

matt's point was that these libs that keep yelling that if trump gets re-elected it's a "real danger to democracy and should be taken seriously" while also simultaneously freaking out at biden's sub-40% approval ratings then why aren't these dipshit libtards annoying people that can actually do something about it instead getting mad at people pointing out that poo poo still sucks right now. if the priority is keeping trump out of office then they should be doing literally anything else besides freaking out at people online.

either they don't actually believe it and they're full of poo poo or they just love to get off scolding people for not being enthusiastic enough

Yeah, who do the dems have to run instead? They tried out a few of their clones in the primary and they never got anywhere. Nostalgia for the Obama era is still all that they have, so doing Weekend at Bernie's with Biden for another four years is probably their best bet. And the Democratic Party has a lot of institutional knowledge about dealing with dementia patients.

quote:

I listened to the these for a while until I listened to the first episodes. Where they peddled conspiracy theories (literally satanist sex scandal stuff).
If it's just ghost stories, it doesn't matter, but with that kinda content you have some responsibilities, otherwise you become some sort of qanon.

quote:

I seem to remember insinuations that the state press was send in to destroy a witness by a political cabal. Even though it became very clear that this witness was not reliable and over time went on to make some very wild satanist child sacrifice claims. It was a sensitive issue, because she did have a past of abuse. But to insinuate that THE STATE MEDIA will just do whatever the people in power on the other end of the line tell them no questions asked was a bit much. I vaguely remember some other stuff from that episode but it’s been too long ago. Anyway I won’t bring it up anymore.

it was fun but a little dissapointing. not really anything new. if you read ft or the econ thread it was basically the same thing we've talked about with lounges, centurion, labor shortages and profit grinding, massive delays, falling infrastructure, and the premium consumer remains healthy. don't think there was really anything we haven't all talked about before

probably the most surprising thing is how many people are willing to pay for that premium poo poo. most people are poor and flying is already expensive even by itself. i never do it but i'm an absolute cheapskate though.

guess it was nice to tie in how all the middle class americans are going absolutely insane and rampaging all over workers

"World History hurts my feefees and since we collectively can't do anything about it or Systemic Discrimination, delusional, outright Reactionary revisionist history is ok" (wrt to the previous episode referring to PragerU teaching Lost Cause garbage to students).

"Our current dumb loving country is making GBS threads out tragedy after tragedy and since we're currently powerless to do anything about it its just misery porn not worth even acknowledging"

These are dumbest takes I've seen in a while and frankly its honestly infuriating the more I think about it. It's just so intellectually cowardly to me that the only way some people people here cope is by getting mad at other people for acknowledging the world literally and proverbially being on loving fire

I just wanna say as someone who has been embarrassingly mad at chapo before, ultimately you just have to accept that no inspiration is or call to act is ever coming from them. Like there's this honestly kinda ridiculous desire I've felt for them to do something, say something, make use of the huge audience they have in some way because of the bernie campaign. I put my life into that thing, thinking I didn't have illusions about it because I recognized it as reformist or w/e as a baby marxist, but I still got swept up in the hype: seeing them rally their goony rear end supporters to door knock and fundraise, hearing the latest updates of everyone's efforts, even the doughy dry boys, was amazing!

But they just don't matter anymore, they dabbled with being something other than a comedy podcast and put it to bed. Their opinions don't matter, the moment (if that even really describes it) has passed. I agree that they've got a certain defeatism to them - who cares? At this point if they aren't funny I just ditch out of the ep. You gotta find the real road to change: posting

I've never listened to a Chapo or cumtown but aren't they just basic Bernie socdems? Like not even revisionist Marxists like Hasanabi but straight up ineffectual socdems? That's what I've always heard at least.

It seems weird to be disappointed in them not being politically effective if that's the case.
