Has there been anything like that before? I'm not sure how I feel about talking legos.

I've only been doing this as an adult for a couple of years but I have run into a lot of talking bricks. They mostly laugh or say "gently caress YOU!" when I try to put them together but I'm sure that isn't just in my head.

The most recent examples would be the Super Mario sets. Before that you have to go back to 2011 which I believe was the last time that Lego used it's old sound brick in the Alien Conquest line. Those old bricks just made simple noises like sirens.

Not sure why you would want to listen to a bunch of rockets while on a carousel.

Those Mario sets slipped my mind, and that Alien line was in my dark ages. Thanks for the info.

I totally forgot I had this set as a kid. My brother and I put it together over christmas awhile back. It came out in 1986. The sound still worked, but the lights were broken. The set came with plates that had metal running along the underside with contacts on them that would run power to the lights. I wonder why Lego abandoned that.

Xbox 360 does not hit my nostalgia buttons. Feels like I was playing on one of those less than a decade ago, because I was.

Seems like a neat build though. No idea who it's for.

Tbf the Nintendo and Atari did push my nostalgia buttons and I still thought they were kind of dumb. I don't really see the appeal.

The Nintendo at least had the added nostalgia of the 80s TV cabinet and the novelty of the scrolling game display, without that the consoles are just visually uninteresting chunks of plastic.

And the game cart that you can insert in and push down. Then inside of it actually mimicks the internals and was fun to build. I really like the way some of the parts came together on that.

Plus, the controller fits perfectly in Bowser's hands to make them look great next to each other.

The 3/4 scale is weird too. Why not just buy an actual xbox 360 and put it on a shelf? It's not that much bigger.

1/3 or smaller scale would make it a fun display piece that you could tuck onto a shelf in your nerd cave.

You can get a (supposedly working) xbox 360 of that design for about 50 bucks on ebay.

This sounds more interesting than the Atari.

You could do a revolving screen with white noise and *ahem* non-subscribed cable porn from the 80s. (This is probably gonna go over younger folks heads.)

I did a preview of a metroid scene for the NES TV in studio, but buying the parts to do it was more than I wanted to spend. And I wasn't super happy with the quality anyways.

It it something I'll do someday though. That TV is too cool to not modify.

Yeah the idea of this being retro makes me feel old as hell. I last played my 360 just a few years ago, and it wasn't for nostalgia reasons or anything. It's just a console I have with some fun games on it. Seeing this just makes me want to fire it up again and replay Dishonored or something.

It's an okay model. It's heavily enabled by those extremely specific angled corner pieces, and I'm not really convinced by how the buttons are integrated. The internals look neat? It's fine. Perhaps someone more versed in MEGA's design language and part library can tell me if this is a particularly impressive build given whatever limitations they may or may not have had.

Yeah GTA V was released on the 360 almost exactly a decade ago. People can look back fondly on the console (I sure do) but it's not really the same kind of retro thing that the NES/Atari have.

It probably wouldn’t be as fun of a build, but would the original Xbox with the original Halo be borderline retro at this point? I vaguely remember it being out over 20 years ago. But a big black box with a ginormous black controller probably doesn’t show off as well.

Koramei

I have three regrets
The first is to be born in Joseon.
Halo's straight up 22 years old, way older than when NES/SNES started being considered retro.

Seeing a page with a $650 set of the Venator and an XBox 360, i.e. 2 things that came out in 2005, is pretty striking. The nostalgia market has moved on, make way, olds.

Yeah, the 360 is for people like my son, who has really started to get into our old 360 as a retro sort of thing. Mind, he's eleven.

I'm not sure on the price though, 150 seems like a lot for what it is.

An actual, functional xbox 360 is not a lego set. You don't buy it in pieces and put it together to enjoy the techniques that form its shape out of plastic blocks, nor can you use those same blocks to make a space ship or something. So there is no point to this comparison.
