There is some big time screaming involved so I would say the going mute/subtitles will help.

If it helps enough is a question I can't answer

There is only a single short second or so this episode. The preview for episode 6 shows that that will be one of the major points of that episode.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Really looking forward to seeing this but can anyone tell me how bad the Egwene-captured bits are? I always skip those on a re-read as I find them too upsetting for Reasons. Do we think popping subtitles on and muting sound will be enough to take the edge off?

The episode preview makes it seem like its going to take a turn towards violence. Maybe not to the level of torture-porn horror flicks, but it looks to be a marked step up from what weve seen so far. Ask again at 9:30pm Eastern time next week, when people have seen the episode in its entirety. This episode (#5) wasnt so bad; Id put it on level with the final scenes of Return of the Jedi, in the Death Star throne room.

Hopefully it plays out more visually and we actually get to see Lews Therin chatting with Rand every now and then because I liked the dude they cast to play him and it seems kind of a waste for him to just be a one and done guy.

I need to go back and watch the Lews Therin scene from the last episode of season 1 on Amazon Prime proper, because I tried looking it up on YouTube just now, and every clip I saw was "Lews Therin Scene NON-WOKE VERSION" or something like that, and I'm not clicking that poo poo.

It was definitely a surprise at the end of the first book. At least to Moiraine. I remember her dragging a knife across one of the seals and scratching it, and it being a "holy poo poo" moment.

It's really not, tbh I think the actual state of the seals isn't known in the tower until the very end- Rand doesn't give them to Egwene until the actual last minute.

They obviously know shits hosed though, between failing wards and the tower itself literally transport swapping whole blocks of rooms.

At this point in the books though Moiraine has only seen the single broken seal from the eye and while I think she told siuan about it I'm not even sure if she did that much.

It's a separate video listed on Amazon. On the phone app it's under "Episodes", not sure about on the website.

Yeah, trying to find any clips of the show on YouTube is a fools errand because they're drowned out in a sea of tears from people bitching about the show.

There are some really good non-reader reaction/review/speculation channels. After finding a few of those, and ignoring some of the bigger WOKE RUINED WOT channels, its been a lot better.

The good news at least though is that aside from the weird chuds who cosplay as knights and scream about how seeing Barbie and Princess Peach (and literally any other woman, for that matter) being on their TV screens and doing and saying things makes them murderously angry, none of the hatewatch channels seem to be getting any views compared to the people who are enjoying the show and reacting to/reviewing it. And Ser Angriust Chudd of the Knights of Perpetual Virginity already had a massive built-in fanbase from his videos where he talks about swords or poo poo, so he's just kinda coasting off that.

I love the contrast between Moiraine saying, "If all the Forsaken are released, we're doomed!" and Lanfear saying, "If the rest of these idiots wake up, we're screwed!"

And hey, that's Katie Leung (Cho Chang from Harry Potter)! Still in a wizarding school, but with a less ridiculous character name now.

How is it a change? My recollection is that Hawkwings siege of the Tower was the impetus in the books, too.

Edit: cursory research indicates that this may be true of two of the oaths, but the oath about weapons may be older? Either way, the discovery that the Oath rods werent like good and were actually a tool for binding criminals was a storyline in the books

All 3 oaths predate the Trolloc Wars, which predate Hawkwing by a millennia. There is no connection between Hawkwing's siege and the oaths.

Wow, really? I also thought Hawkwing was the king who forced the 3 oaths. But I'm totally open to the fact that I'm wrong about that. Because yeah, I honestly don't know how that timeline would work, if I think about it now.

About the entire thing with Sheriam and Verin: we know from the books that Verin is able to use a weak form of Compulsion. My theory is that she previously visited Sheriam and used Compulsion on her in order to set the whole chain of events in motion.

And also the asking after a certain book was code for a Black Ajah meetup.

Edit: Or was it Liandrin with the Compulsion talent? That would fit even better.

Yeah I thought it was Hawkwing too, because I seem to recall that was how it seemed to go down in New Spring when Moirane was explaining it to the audience via her internal monologue, but I guess not.

I dunno about her doing Compulsion on Sheriam, but Verin is definitely putting the finishing touches on her list of Black Ajah, that's for sure.

Going by the Wheel of Time Companion, the oaths were all in place by the end of the trolloc wars, yeah, so that's 2000 years before the start of the series, and 1000 years pre Hawkwing.

Practically it's not all that big a difference between the end of the trolloc wars and Hawkwing, and gives greater weight to the seanchan desire to control channelers if it was that much more directly handed down by Hawkwing.

I'd heard she was casted but wasn't sure who she'd be until this episode. Guess someone sorted into the nerd house twice.

I really like these Browns and I hope her or the other don't get killed off soon to establish stakes or something . I don't remember either as book names off hand.

I think for a cast that's pretty much exclusively using a spectrum of European accents, making the slaver empire have all American accents works great even if it's not explicitly the over the top texan drawl.

I believe the show explicitly says the three oaths are due to Hawkwing, but the information came from Liandrin. So maybe its a lie, or maybe shes simply mistaken, or maybe the show changed the history of Randland.

Yeah, while I would have preferred strong Texan accents, American accents send a message, as others have said. So I'll take it, as a strong substitute. I was worried they'd have the same European accents as everyone else.

I think the show is definitely saying this, yeah. And my hazy memory aside, I think it definitely works as shorthand for if they go into Hawkwing's background and the "invader's" reason for leaving the mainland in the first place. Add that to his history for hating Aes Sedai.

I was about to say it's really fun that the casting allows them to play around with accents in a way that is really difficult to pull off in text, and makes all the more vivid the "mishmash of sort-of-recognizable cultural elements in juxtapositions you've never thought about" aspect of the book. Like a friend once told me about going to a chip shop in Scotland and being greeted by the East Asian host saying "aagh, an what'll ye be havin' laddie?"
