Sounds like it's going to be a long road, but the worst has been avoided.

I work with a girl who is otherwise nice but 90% of her conversations either begin with, drift in to, or end with "well in California it's like this" and "I'm from California, and" and it's like good god you left for a reason but you're mentally still there

I flew from Vancouver to LA last summer and it was remarkable how the scenery got shittier every step of the way. Leave one of the most beautiful places in the world and arrive in the ugliest

Living up in the hills in LA seems nice though, of course you have to be insanely rich to afford it and also you still live in LA but at least the view is cool.

Peoria is like 70% hideous decay and 30% gorgeous old houses. Especially in the area around downtown and just north of OSF St. Francis hospital, even moreso around this time of year, up on the river bluffs. It's about the only place in the area with a sense of elevation and it's just nice winding neighborhoods of cool houses

I used to have to drive to NORCO, Louisiana a lot for work. Go on and look up why the name of the town is in all caps. Always felt bad for the people who lived there, and tried to get done and back away from there ASAP
