I think he made a beautiful post and did a great job and he is good.
I know it's not the offseason, the customary time to bring this up, but I just wanted to say that Nicklas Backstrom should get into the HHOF on the same ballot as Ovechkin. :colbert:

Kind of assume that Vegas told the league about what happened from their end, and it seems so outlandish incompetent/deceitful that the league didn't believe them, and then turned out it be true

Frustrating part about these back-to-back super harsh punishments the league handed out to the Sens is the vagueness. What did Pinto do to get a 41-gamer if he wasn’t betting on the NHL? Did Dorion lie to Vegas about Dadonovs NTC or was it pure incompetence from a guy who will probably never have a job in the NHL again?

Anyway, Ottawa called a Press conference at 3:15, see ya Pierre

I don't think Backstrom is getting in. Over 1000 points and 1 Stanley Cup doesn't seem like enough of a resume.

Yeah Backstrom is not going to make it. He was never in the top few players in the league during his career and his credentials are excellent but not HHOF worthy

Backstrom is better than Adam Oates, who made it in. Two World Championships, silver in the Olympics*, all-star, Stanley Cup champ.

Is he better than Adam Oates? Isn't Oates 3rd all time in assists or something?

Ottawa got nuked for loving with player contracts and straight lying about CBA related atuff. And more importantly, doing so in an incompetent way that they couldn't claim some legal cover for like the Mike Richards stuff.

Chicago should also have gotten nuked, but Ottawa absolutely needs to be made an example of if they were actively lying rather than incompetent.

He's down to 8th now but yeah, I'm not sure why Oates never gets any respect. He was in every way "what if Joe Thornton, but human shaped" and no one seems to question Thornton's HOF credentials.

Alfredsson got in with a roughly similar career (though he had a calder and a lot more international success)

Elias and Brind'Amour are two statistical comparables who aren't in yet though

I guess Hossa got in with no real personal hardware (admittedly by the virtue of winning 3 cups) but who knows

Oates had more assists than Backstrom had points. And Backstrom's the one guy that can't use the "but Oates only got numbers by feeding Hull all day" excuse.

Backstrom ended with a 0.93ppg vs. Oates 1.06 but Backstrom is all post-lockout. Higher ppg than the Sedins.

It’s the hall of very good, Backstrom is def getting in. Maybe not first ballot but he’ll get in.

Does Ovechkin get to file his insurance policy now ? Does this give him the goals to hit the record?

Backstrom should and I am pretty certain will be in. 1000 points in a low scoring era and a Cup has mostly been enough to get in and I think it helps that he was only a single team that was pretty successful for his tenure. Twice in the top 5 in scoring, 5 times in the top 10. I think he'll wait to get in but I don't think the HHOF is going to be super strict on him in particular.

Led the league in assists 3 years and had a 142 of season. The guy is one of the absolute best passers ever and I don't think Backstrom is particularly close to him.

Benning certainly feels like the right answer. But I think some of that is whiplash from the Canucks being like top of the league great for the first time ever prior to his hiring. I remember most people on the forums fawned over Gillis. He was one of the early analytics guys. He was early on building mostly for speed and skill and pro-Euro. He was hyper diligent about cap strategy. He hired like sleep specialists and body trackers and performance people early. Then the Cup loss happened, everyone in and around Vancouver lost their mind, and Benning did a masterclass in how to incompetently run a team.

So yeah he’s bad, but guys like Fletcher and Hextall and Dorion and Chiarelli and others are probably on the same level

All star game maybe, but the problem they are having is no one wants to host the draft which is why they are floating the smaller format.

Teams want to host that's not a problem. The problem is that teams don't want to travel for it.
