Yeah, I mean they are quite clearly a way for the Russian state to have a plausible deniability when spreading their propaganda in the West.

Speaking of propaganda, I ran into this abysmal "article": https://asiatimes.com/2023/11/cia-boss-heads-for-z-day-in-kyiv-as-ukraine-falters/

Asia Times is HK based, a news source for many, and from the tenor of the article, I imagine conforms to the drivel the CCP wishes to propagate. I'll let others comment on the nexus between CCP and Rus propaganda, but even though the article is poorly written, and is clearly nonsense, it may be sufficient to sway casual readers and the uneducated, and of course, readers already with an agenda of their own. But the numbers of readers who might think, "This is an established news organization, so it must be true," may not be trivial.

quote:

Along with running a blatantly dictatorial operation from Kiev, Zelensky’s success is built on a base of graft and theft. He finances his support by allowing officials to steal as much as they can. That way they stay loyal.

Moreover, it isn’t clear that Washington’s policy has any support among NATO member countries.

e: oh, and I should have said that the article was linked by Drudge Report (yes, yes, I know) which is certainly a news source for many but is an illustration of how US sources can be co-opted simply because they value clicks over integrity.

Geopolitical vacuums are filled rather quickly, and as Russia inevitably weakens, the 2 remaining superpowers are going to be going at it tooth and nail for influence, which is really politesse for stark power.

You can either watch from the sidelines or make a solid and lasting contribution by yelling, "Taipei number one! Beijing number 9!" during death matches.

Cool. The attack happened in the early hours of the morning so either the crew were assisting with repairs at that hour or there are no lodgings on base for them. I am going to hazard a guess and say that the latter is true.

quote:

The dominating prowess of the Russian army in air and artillery is severely straining the defense capabilities of the Kyiv troops stationed in this city in Donetsk province. “Russians are battle-hardened and ready to make the ultimate sacrifice,” the Ukrainian soldier reflects.

:jerkbag: I'd highly question the veracity of this site. :jerkbag:

Is it technically feasible that they burned out the barrel and haven't gone back to the motor pool?
What I do know is the M109 is a 60 year old platform that is (maybe) the most ubiquitous artillery size on the planet, and maybe even the most ubiquitous SPG on the planet. Also, in theory, the US is migrating away from the M109 to the M1299 this year so their entire parts stockpile may be available. Seriously a page and a half of countries that use it or some knock off

What I'm saying is, if Ukraine needs M109 parts, there's shitloads of ways to get them. Alternatively, the Russian SPGs were never exported in bulk / use Russian ammo only, so Russia can only blame itself for not being able to keep them in the field.

it will take a considerable amount of rounds before they wear out a barrel. its not inconceivable that theyve burned a barrel or two, but theres no way theyre at 70m accuracy, thats unbelievably inaccurate for the platform.

you had to have consistent failures in target designation, shot calculation and the aiming, and only the latter is manual these days.

im sure the logic behind the used up barrels is that theyve fired so many rounds in bakhmut and have continued firing without undergoing maintenance, which is definitely horseshit lmao.
