This game is another prime example of the dichotomy of Dallas Stars ice time distribution. The Stars have clarified that Nils Lundkvist is benched and healthy scratched all the time because those actions are learning opportunities where he is afforded the opportunity to benefit from working on his game away from the ice. Meanwhile Ryan Suter and Jani Hakanpaa can constantly gently caress up and play the laziest hockey imaginable and never see any reduction to their ice time - they've already learned everything and will never improve from what they are now, so benching or scratching them would serve no developmental point. So yeah, Suter can shoot the puck in his own net and then like 2 minutes later stand at the blueline half-heartedly jabbing at the puck as 3 Rangers skate by him on the breakout for a 3 on 1 opportunity and I don't have to get upset because it's all in line with the team philosophy
